Woman crashes, steals cars during police chase

CARROLL TWP. — A motorist who allegedly drove over 100 mph evaded law enforcement after crashing twice and stealing two vehicles, including a deputy's cruiser. The incident started at 4 p.m. Saturday on Ohio 2 in Carroll Township, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. A state trooper clocked a vehicle — a Dodge Scat Pack Charger that was reported stolen out of Streetsboro, Ohio — traveling at 145 mph, Sheriff Steve Levorchick said. The Dodge evaded the trooper but a sheriff's deputy picked up the chase, which ended with the Dodge crashing and rolling over on Ohio 163 near Elliston-Trowbridge Road. The Dodge had two occupants — the driver and a passenger — both of them women, Levorchick said. The passenger suffered injuries in the crash. "The deputy exited his cruiser and the passenger was screaming for help," Levorchick said. "He went to the aid of the passenger, and when he did, the driver jumped in the cruiser and took off." The woman drove the cruiser for about a mile before crashing into a ditch, Levorchick said. Then a man driving a pickup stopped to help. The woman allegedly indicated to the man that the deputy driving the cruiser was "hurt bad," and when the man went to help the deputy, she allegedly stole his pickup truck and drove off. Law enforcement in Detroit discovered that pickup crashed in their city on Sunday, Levorchick said. The driver has not yet been found, but they have been identified and charges are pending. The passenger was taken to Magruder Hospital, and later a Toledo hospital, for treatment and has since been released, he said. Charges for her are also pending.
