Heidelberg announces new Diversity & Inclusion scholarship

As a way to continue to provide access to education, Heidelberg University has announced a new scholarship opportunity for incoming and current students. This fall, Heidelberg will award four students the new Diversity & Inclusion Scholarship. "This scholarship will remove financial barriers that too often limit the enrollment of talented and hard-working underrepresented students of color at Heidelberg," Tony Bourne, vice president for Enrollment and Marketing, said in a release provided by Heidelberg. The scholarship will support the funding of full-tuition costs. Once the scholarship is awarded, it will remain with the student during their time at Heidelberg, according to the release. "We've committed to creating opportunities for diversity on our campus and this is one step in providing these scholarship recipients a chance to make a real impact in our community, in the classroom and beyond," Bourne, stated in the release. The application for this scholarship is now available on Heidelberg's website. Applications will remain open until the end of March, with recipients being notified of their award by mid-April. Winners of the scholarship will be chosen based on identification as a member of an underrepresented student population, displayed academic potential, quality of response to a writing prompt, and demonstrated commitment to community involvement and engagement, according to the release. "It's easy to say that you want to be more diverse and inclusive, but it's another thing to actually take steps to achieve those goals," Shaun Gunnell, coordinator of Multicultural Student Affairs, said in the release. "This is such a big step for Heidelberg University."
