Lela J. Brookes

Lela J. Brookes, 77, of Bloomville, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021, at her residence. Lela was born June 24, 1943, in Norwalk, to the late Charles and May (Rutherford) Schmucker. She married John D. Brookes May 30, 1964, in Tiffin, and he preceded her in death Feb. 7, 2005. Survivors include her four children, John (Kelly) of Bloomville, Paul Brookes of Bloomville, Brian (Catherine) Brookes of Bloomville and Tammy (Brian) Miller of Green Springs; fourteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Lela was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Glenn and Norman Schmucker and James William Rutherford; and a sister, Lucille Brookes. Lela was retired and a member of Melmore Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing games on the computer, watching birds, cross words and just spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lela was a 1986 graduate of Tiffin University. There will be a celebration of Lela's life at a later date. Burial will also be at Rock Creek Cemetery at a later date. Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home, Bloomville is assisting the family with their arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
