Early blasts spark Mohawk sweep

SYCAMORE — Mohawk took control early with homers Saturday to sweep away Norwalk St. Paul 9-3 and 13-8.Aubrie Harper belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the first of the opener to stake the Warriors to a 3-1 lead, and Bailey Sheets and Paityn Clouse went back to back in the first inning of the second game to spark a nine-run burst in that frame.Sheets picked both wins, fanning 12 in the first game and eight in the second.Clouse went 3 for 3 in the opener with a double, two runs and four RBIs, and Tori Phillips ended 3 for 3 with three runs.Sheets scored twice and singled and Mya Mattox singled and scored.St. Paul opened the second game with a pair of runs in the first inning, but Sheets blasted a two-run homer to tie the score and Clouse followed with her solo shot.The Warriors led 9-2 before the inning was through and weathered a five-run surge by the Flyers in the third to remain in control.Sheets added a single, another run and another RBI, Harper doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice and Lauren Moyer scored twice, doubled and knocked in a run.Phillips backed them with a single, two RBIs and two runs, Marah Gillig scored three times, Aley Schock scored and Kendal Bailey drove in a run. Jackets bash HN, ArcadiaARCADIA — Lizz Walter smashed a pair of homers in the first game and four teammates homered in the second game Saturday as New Riegel steamrolled Hardin Northern 16-0 and Arcadia 14-4.Walter belted a three-run shot in the third inning and a two-run blast in the fourth as part of 3-for-4 effort with four runs and six RBIs in the opener.Aubrey Bouillon added a two-run homer as part of a 3-for-4 effort while scoring four times.That was more than enough offensive support for Kayleigh Lininger, who got the win and allowed just one hit over three innings. Flashes outlast Tigers in score-festATTICA — Jake Cok singled in the go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh and reliever Dylan Thompson set down Seneca East in order in bottom of the frame Saturday as Willard took a back-and-forth 16-15 win.A pair of five-run bursts early helped the Crimson Flashes build a 14-11 lead by the end of the fifth inning, but Seneca East scored four in the sixth for a one-run edge.Austin Adelman drew a leadoff walk for Willard to open the seventh and Carson Cinniger followed with a bunt single. Bucks drop a pairNEW WASHINGTON — Buckeye Central dropped a pair of 5-1 games Saturday, falling on the road in a league game with Colonel Crawford before losing at home to South Central.The game with Northern 10 Athletic Conference foe Colonel Crawford was rescheduled from Thursday.Kaiden Vaughn (0-1) took the loss for the Bucks against Colonel Crawford, allowing one earned run and four runs total over three innings. He also singled and scored.Manny Mullins added a single and RBI.Cade Hamilton got the win for the Eagles. Myers, TC sweep EdisonMILAN — Columbian didn't have much trouble scoring Saturday in a sweep of Edison 12-0 and then 12-2 in a doubleheader.In the first game, Jaden Myers one-hit the Chargers for a five-inning complete game on the hill. Myers struck out six and walked just one in the shutout.At the plate, Myers also had a big game as he blasted a home run, two singles and drove in a pair of runs. TC also got two singles and two RBIs apiece from Griffin Bunting and Trevor Blodgett and a single and two RBIs by David Auble.Myers also hit another home run in the second game and drove in three runs to lead the Tornadoes. Gunther Kissell recorded two singles and two RBIs, Bunting, Bryce Roggow and Carson Mellott each singled and drove in a run and Tandon Lemmon tripled.Bunting was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on four hits in three innings. He struck out six and walked three. Roggow finished the five-inning contest, giving up no hits and fanning two. Eagles one-hit Raiders twicePEMBERVILLE — Eastwood's pitchers handcuffed Lakota in a pair of one-hit runaway wins Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader by scores of 11-0 and 22-1.Jordan Pickerel went all five innings in the opener for the Eagles and Ethan Rapp did the same in the second five-inning affair. Pickerell fanned eight and Rapp struck out 10. Both walked just two.Pickerel helped his own cause in the first game with a single and two RBIs.Isaac Cherry added two RBIs, a triple, single and run for the Eagles and Jared McNulty doubled, drove in a run and scored.Case Boos (RBI) and Jarod Bonfiglio both singled twice and scored twice, Andrew Arntson (RBI) had two runs and a single, Isaac Badenhoff (run, RBI) singled and Lake Boos and Toby Marten each scored.Jayden Bonnell lined the lone hit for Lakota. Kenny Rice took the loss.The Eagles battered Lakota for eight extra-base hits in the second game.Cherry and Arntson both hit two-run homers. Cherry also doubled as part of a 3-for-4 effort and ended up scoring three times and driving in four runs. Flyers pull away twiceSYCAMORE — Norwalk St. Paul scored runs in bunches late Saturday en route to sweeping Mohawk 11-5 and 9-4.St. Paul broke away in the first game with five runs in the top of the sixth and four in the seventh for an 11-1 lead.The Warriors scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the bases loaded before St. Paul secured the win.Landen Snyder took the loss for Mohawk. He also drove in two runs and singled.Tyler Hayman and Bryce Hannam both went 2 for 3 with a run, Blake Harper had a single, run and RBI, Nathan Geary and Trey Combs both singled and scored and Troy Russell added an RBI.Mohawk looked to turn things around in the second game, snapping a scoreless tie with two runs in the second inning, and adding single runs in the third and fifth innings for a 4-2 lead.But the Flyers countered with six runs in the sixth and added another in the seventh to inch away.Wyatt Swartz suffered the loss despite fanning 10 in six innings. Five of the eight runs scored against him were earned.Geary and Hayman both singled twice and knocked in a run, Avery Stump doubled in a run and scored, Snyder singled and scored, Reese Hannam, Bryce Hannam amd Xavier Oesch each scored and Combs drove in a run.
