EV charging stations up and running in Tiffin

The two electric vehicle charging stations that Tiffin received a grant for last year have been installed. The stations, paid for by AEP Ohio and the White Family Grant, and are now fully operational in City Lot 7 downtown. The Tiffin Community Foundation received the grants in 2020, but AEP Ohio first presented a proposal to the Seneca County Commissioners in August 2019. The AEP Ohio EV Charging Incentive Program grant was valued at $150,000, and the White Family Grant was valued at $8,000. AEP's grant money went towards the purchasing and installation of the stations themselves, while the White Family money covered signage and signage installation. The charging stations are Level 3-DC Fast Charging units, suitable for use for all electric vehicles with legacy and future battery packs from 200V to 1,000V. They can be found on the ChargePoint App, which shows users nearby charging stations and allows for payment. The stations also accept credit card payments onsite. There are no additional fees to users — the only payment is for the power itself. The units enable electric vehicles to charge to 80% battery power in half an hour. They require 480V service and are each equipped with two power modules that deliver up to 62.3 kW to vehicles. "Thank you to the Tiffin Community Foundation, the White Family Grant and to AEP Ohio for this opportunity in the City of Tiffin," said Mayor Aaron Montz in a T-SEP release. "Having these stations downtown and now ready-to-use puts us on the map for commuters and positions Tiffin to be ready for the future of travel." Fostoria also recently received a grant via the same AEP Ohio incentive program, and will soon install their own electric vehicle charging stations.
