Sonoco announces Tiffin facility expansion

At the Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership Annual Meeting Thursday evening, economic development manager Nick Dutro announced that Sonoco of Tiffin has broken ground on a new expansion of its facility at 60 Heritage Drive in the Northstar Industrial Park. The 46,000 square foot expansion will add new office space, a large conference room and a warehouse, a release from TSEP states. The parking lot will also be resurfaced and expanded. The design build general contractor for the project is Clouse Construction of New Riegel. Sonoco has operated in Tiffin for nearly 30 years, and employs 90 people in the area. Across the globe, the company has more than 20,000 employees in 34 countries. Overall, Sonoco has annualized net sales of more than five billion dollars. A representative from the Tiffin facility is quoted in the release saying that the expansion is expected to be completed by the beginning of next year, and that they imagine it will create some new job opportunities. Sonoco was founded in 1899 as a global provider of consumer, industrial, healthcare and protective packaging, and was the first business to set up roots in the Northstar Industrial Park. This is the Tiffin facility's third expansion since opening in 1992. "We're excited to make this announcement, and thank the Tiffin community for its support as we continue to grow our operations here," Sonoco Plant Manager John Dimino is quoted saying in the release. Mayor Aaron Montz shared his enthusiasm as well. "Congratulations to Sonoco on your continued success and making this investment in Tiffin," Montz is quoted saying in the release. "When I see companies like yours continue to expand and invest in their operations and workforce, it shows their commitment to this community."
