Fostoria woman dies in pickup vs. car accident

JACKSON TOWNSHIP — A woman was pronounced dead at ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital after being transported from the scene of a two-vehicle accident at SR 12 and CR 592 east of Fostoria Friday afternoon. Karen Roth, 69, of Fostoria, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Impala westbound on CR 592 while Joseph C. Hart, 26, of Apple Creek, Ohio, was southwest bound on SR 12 in a 2015 Ford F350 pulling utility trailer at about 1:54 p.m. Friday, a release from the Highway Patrol states. Roth failed to yield from the stop sign at the intersection and pulled into the path of Hart's pickup, and her vehicle was struck on its passenger side, the release states. Both vehicles went off the northwest corner of the intersection, struck wires from a utility pole and came to a stop in the yard of a private residence, it states. Roth was transported by Fostoria EMS to Fostoria Community Hospital and was pronounced dead at the hospital, the release states. Hart sustained minor injuries and left the scene on his own, it states. Roth was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, it states. Drug/alcohol impairment is not suspected at this time, but the accident remains under investigation. Kansas Volunteer Fire Department, the Echo unit, Seneca County Sheriff's Office, the Fremont post of State Highway Patrol, John's Towing and Reinhart Towing assisted at the scene.
