Aqua to replace water main

Aqua Ohio is to replace 1,750-feet of a water main along Ella Street from the water treatment plant east in front of Tiffin Middle School to Sycamore Street. The 16-inch water main supplies treated water to the southeast quadrant of the city. The project includes replacing the cast iron water main with a like-sized ductile iron pipe which is lighter, stronger and more durable. Four valves will be replaced and fire protection will be enhanced with two hydrants along the route being replaced by five. The budget for the replacement is $752,000. Work will require daily road closures during construction, which is expected to begin this week. "Drivers may want to avoid the area if possible," a release from Aqua Ohio states. Water service will be maintained throughout construction. There are 17 customers who will experience short-term interruptions while their service lines are connected to the new main near the end of the project. Those customers are to be notified in advance of the planned interruptions.
