Attica Fair opens Tuesday

ATTICA - Attica Independent Fair was preparing over the weekend for its opening Tuesday. The event continues through Saturday on the fairgrounds, 15127 E. TR 12. Booth and barn setup started Saturday and Sunday and continues today, along with pre-fair project judging. For individuals and groups entered in the Round Bale Decorating Contest, entries must be in place by 10 p.m. Tuesday. The fair's opening ceremony is at 9 a.m. Tuesday, and the first day is sponsored by Attica Lumber. Tuesday's featured events include Junior Fair goat judging and baked goods projects early in the day and a Sweet Treats Bake-Off at 4 p.m. A cheerleading competition is planned for 5 p.m. and the annual royalty contest at 6 p.m., followed by rabbit judging at 7 p.m. and a baked goods auction at 8 p.m. On Wednesday, senior citizens are admitted free all day with a Golden Buckeye Card. The day is sponsored by St. Francis Senior Ministries. Featured events for Wednesday are Junior Fair rabbit and cattle judging, and harness racing starts at noon. Also planned are health checks, "Ice Cream To Go" and musical entertainment in the morning and afternoon by Kerry Patrick Clark, Yvonne Ehrenfried and the Wash Board Band. followed by a Monster Truck show at 6 p.m. and more music by the Fostoria Lake Plains Barbershop Chorus at 7 p.m.. Veterans get free admission Thursday with proper paperwork. The day is sponsored by J&F Construction & Development Inc. Highlights of the day include poultry judging in the morning and harness racing at noon. Election of directors is at 3 p.m. The evening includes sheep show and judging at 6 p.m. and a TGMA Gospel Music Production at 7 p.m. The Irene Martin Service Award Presentation is at 7:10, followed by wiener dog races at 7:30 and the pig scramble at 7:40 p.m. Friday, co-sponsored by North Central Electric Cooperative and AgCredit, features Junior Fair hog judging and show at 10 a.m., the Showman of Showmen contest at 5 p.m. and the Stylish Design Review at 6 p.m. Seneca East Marching Band is set to perform at 2 p.m., and Michael Goudeau Comedy & Juggling has shows at 6, 7:30 and 9 p.m. Square dancing is planned for 7 p.m. and the Twisted Metal Demolition Derby is at 7:30. Saturday, co-sponsored by Willard Mercy Health and Cole Distributing, starts off with the Back to Farm Auction at 9 a.m. and the Sale of Champions/Junior Fair Auction at 10 a.m. The Tri-County Garden Tractor Pullers competition starts at 10 a.m. Kids' Day starts at 1 p.m. and the tractor and truck pulls start at 5:30. New Washington Band is to perform at 7 p.m. Throughout the week, the kids' pedal pull will take place at 5 p.m. daily, working up to the finals at 4 p.m. Saturday. Registration begins at 4:15 p.m. daily and scales close at 5 p.m. Children must be weighed in at registration. Each weekday winner is eligible for the championship pull at 4 p.m. Saturday. Also all week, Attica Junior Fair hosts movie night in the show arena every night at 10 p.m. Movies are free and open to anyone with a paid admission to the fair. There will be 8 p.m. showings on Friday and Saturday nights as well. The fair's Beer Garden opens at 5 p.m. each day. Adults are welcome to take food into the garden and relax. Entertainment on Friday evening is to be "One Foot in the Grave" at 8 p.m. and on Saturday is "Rolling Outta Cleveland" at 8 p.m. Another featured area is the corn pit, a play area filled with shelled corn under a tent where kids can play. Also, there is to be an antique farm equipment display all week, this year featuring Case equipment, and an antique tractor parade at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in front of the grandstand. Daily gate admission to the fair is $7 per person for anyone ages 5 and older, which includes kids activities and free parking in the lot across from the fairgrounds. Children ages 4 and younger are free. Season tickets and membership tickets are $20 each and must be purchased before Wednesday for ages 5 and older. A membership ticket can be purchased by residents of Seneca County, and all individuals who would like to display in open class competitions must purchase a season or membership ticket. "Due to the pandemic, new rules from the state of Ohio due to the ride accident at the Ohio State Fair a few years ago, there will not be mechanical rides for the 2021 fair, but there will be inflatables for the kids," according to a statement on the fair website. Grandstand entertainment is included in the gate price, except a $5 fee will be charged for the demolition derby and the Monster Truck show.
