VB boys second at BVC tournament BOWLING GREEN — Liberty-Benton golfers posted four of the top six scores on Tuesday and the Eagles took another step toward what would be their third straight Blanchard Valley Conference championship when they won the second of three league tournaments that will decide the 2021 title. Led by a 79 from medalist Brice McDaniel and an 80 from runner-up Austin Hanni-Wells, Liberty-Benton posted a 327 team total at in the BVC Midseason tournament at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green. Sophomores CJ Beeman (83) and Noah Miles (85) were fourth and fifth in the medalist standings and completed the Eagles' scoring as L-B beat second-place Van Buren (362) by 35 strokes and third-place Pandora-Gilboa (375) by 48. Liberty-Benton also won the first BVC tournament held at the Findlay Country Club in early August, and will head into the final league meet, scheduled for Sept. 22 at Kalida's Moose Landing Golf Club, with the lead in points earned in each of the first two tournaments. Weston Heitkamp carded an 81 to place third in the individual scoring and lead Van Buren to its runner-up finish. Eli Huffman shot an 87 for Pandora-Gilboa, which had placed second in the earlier BVC tournament at FCC.
