Carey native continues basketball career BEREA — Sadie Rend of Carey High School, has been named one of six first-year student athletes to continue their women's basketball career at Baldwin Wallace University. UF band performs FINDLAY — Members of the University of Findlay's Marching Oiler Band recently performed in a "Sounds of the Stadium" concert. The band performed a selection of songs from the season's halftime and pregame shows. Wes King, director of bands at UF, conducted the concert. Local students who performed are Emily Von Stein of New Washington and Nora Zirm of Tiffin. UF choirs perform FINDLAY — The University of Findlay Concert-Chorale and University Singers recently performed "Revival." The concert included hopeful choral music, including arrangements by Craig Hella Johnson and Ola Gjeilo. The performance was directed by Sea Hwa Jung, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities. Local students who performed were Jack Yeater of Carey, and Averie Fritz and Ainsley Sherman of Tiffin. UF student groups elect presidents FINDLAY — Student groups at the University of Findlay have elected presidents for the 2021-22 academic year. There are nearly 75 active clubs, organizations, national honor societies and special interest groups at UF. Local students involved are Hope Brant of Fostoria and Olivia Pauly of Tiffin. Local student awarded scholarship STILLWATER, OK — Seneca County student Jocelyn Levengood was recently honored by the Oklahoma State University Ferguson College of Agriculture with an academic scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year. Levengood is an animal science student from Tiffin. They received the Joseph Fleming Memorial Freshman Scholarship. Carey student performs FINDLAY — Jack Yeater, of Carey, recently participated in the University of Findlay's theatre production of "Triage: A 24-Hour Theatre Experience." "Triage" is an original work created by students who wrote, produced, directed, and performed a theater production in 24 hours, resulting in the performance of two plays: "Mr. Therapy" and "Suspicious Surprise." UF alumna, Samantha Woodman '10, served as guest director. Yeater performed the role of Mr. Therapy and collaboratively wrote the script for "Mr. Therapy." Yeater performed the role of Randy for "Suspicious Surprise" and collaboratively wrote the script for it as well. Tiffin native earns internship experience FINDLAY — Chloe Eppley, of Tiffin, is an intern for the Winfield Child Development Center in Findlay, for fall 2021. Eppley is pursuing a degree in psychology at the University of Findlay. Columbus State names dean's list recipients COLUMBUS — The following students have been named to the Summer Semester Dean's List at Columbus State Community College. Local students named to the dean's list are Jacob Zimmerman of Tiffin; and Ankit Patel of Upper Sandusky. Clyde native placed in student-teacher program FINDLAY — Joshlyn Criswell, of Clyde, has been placed as a student—teacher for the University of Findlay's fall semester. Criswell is in a student teaching position at Whittier Primary School in Findlay. Criswell is pursuing a degree in teaching English to students of other languages (TESOL). Phi Kappa Phi inducts new members BATON ROUGE, LA — The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Local students inducted were Olivia Butler and Tamara Medakov of Tiffin. OU announces summer grads ATHENS — More than 1,900 students graduated with bachelor's, master's or doctorate degrees from Ohio University for summer semester 2021. Local students are Logan Winke of Clyde, bachelor of science in psychology; Heather Skidmore of Attica, bachelor of science in nursing; Jarren Hampton of Fostoria, bachelor of specialized studies; Schuyler Turner of Fostoria, master of business administration; Beth Kreh-Stanley of Clyde, master of science in nursing; and Tiffany Swartz of Tiffin, master of science in nursing. Local students participate in white coat ceremony FINDLAY — Students at the University of Findlay recently received a crisp white lab coat at the College of Pharmacy's White Coat Ceremony. The ceremony signifies the students' entrance into the third year of the six-year program, which is the first year of professional courses in the College of Pharmacy. Local students are Gabriel Reyes of Tiffin and Hayden Russel of Carey. Ohio Wesleyan present research results DELAWARE — Fifty-three Ohio Wesleyan University students shared the results of their on- and off-campus summer research experiences at the university's 29th annual Patricia Belt Conrades Summer Science Research Symposium. Local students who presented were Lydia Arnold of Tiffin, "Reverse Genetics to Investigate the Roles of Two Genes in the Biosynthesis and Export of Nonribosomal Peptide Natural Products;" Carly Schafer of Tiffin, "Gravitropism of Root Tip Growth in Arabidopsis Thaliana (Mustard Plant)" and "Searching for Components of the Gravity Sensing System in Plants." TCS support services committee to meet The Tiffin City Board of Education's Support Services Committee is to meet at 8 a.m. on Nov. 12 in the Administration Building, 244 S. Monroe St. Mohawk students inducted in National Honor Society SYCAMORE — Fifteen students from Mohawk Junior High School were inducted as members of the National Junior Honor Society during an afternoon ceremony on Oct. 6. Students who are the newest members of NJHS are Richard Haden, Zoey Kessler, Emma Weaver, Cara Peterson, Emerson Gurney, Owen Patrizi, Brant Kirian, Bryer Walton.
