Celebrating National Community Foundations Week

National Community Foundations Week takes place Nov. 12-18 around National Philanthropy Day, which falls on Nov. 15. The Tiffin Community Foundation is a trusted partner and steadfast resource to nonprofit organizations in Tiffin and Seneca County. We are currently made up of 95 different funds providing grants to meet the needs of our nonprofit organizations. We recently made a grant of $5,000 to provide an extra truck of food for the annual food distribution by the Knights of Columbus at the Seneca County Fairgrounds this Saturday, Nov. 13, starting at 7 a.m. Funds contributing to this grant include: The Gary C. and Jeanne M. Anderson Memorial Fund, The Bob and Elaine Hunt Memorial Fund, The NOAH Fund, The Marisa Erin Paulus Memorial Fund, The Sisters of St. Francis Fund for Ministries and Retired Sisters, The Tiffin Metal Products Charitable Fund and The Unrestricted Fund of Tiffin Community Foundation. We are very grateful for these very generous donors. During the month of November, our Unrestricted Fund will be matching donations to the FISH food pantry up to $5,000. This will provide a third truckload of meat and dairy to Seneca County income-eligible families at the Dec. 16 food distribution in the Lutheran Church parking lot. Contributions to FISH may be made online at www.tiffinfoundation.org, or by mailing your contribution to our office at 31 S. Washington St. in Tiffin. Dec. 1 is the final due date for unrestricted grant applications to The White Family Fund. In 1934, Sherman White married Virginia Hanson, whose family owned The Hanson Clutch & Machinery Company in Tiffin. Friends remember them as being a very generous, elegant and lovely couple, who were devoted to each other and their small, extended family which included Virginia's twin sister, Margaret Reed. Throughout their lives they were very generous, but quiet philanthropists. Having no heirs, Sherman and Virginia left the earnings of their final estate to five different entities in Tiffin. Tiffin Community Foundation receives 40% of the annual earnings. This provides the Seneca County community with unrestricted grant funds four times per year. The White family's legacy of generosity will not be forgotten. Our Youth Advisory Council is back this year and looking forward to a great year learning about the work of our local nonprofits and why their work is so important in our community. Grant applications to the YAC for projects benefiting children will be accepted through March 31, 2022. Also, in December we will partner with Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce to provide supplies to Tiffin students making Christmas ornaments for the Downtown Christmas tree. The mission of TCF is to provide a community trust to assist and promote the well-being of the citizens of Tiffin and Seneca County. We have been doing that with your generous help since 1983. We will continue to bring our community partners together to find innovative and effective solutions for some of our most challenging social problems and advance the most promising opportunities to benefit our residents.
