Seneca Parks awards 'Sasquatch Spotters'

During Seneca Parks' 25th anniversary in 2021, Sasquatch was spotted early in the year. The elusive creature spent the whole year in Seneca County moving from park to park, and park visitors were encouraged to report sightings. The park district awarded Sasquatch Spotters earlier this month during a program at Garlo Heritage Nature Preserve. Naturalist Angie Ford, who coordinated the yearlong event, said 28 families spotted Sasquatch 5-15 times, which was the first-level award. Each family received a car magnet. At the second level, 13 families who located Sasquatch at least 16 times received an insulated drink tumbler. There were five families eligible for the grand prize package, which required spotting Sasquatch at least 20 times. Two grand prize packages were given away to Lynda Allarding and Kevin Creamer and to Steve and Linda Moorhead. They received a lawn chair and binoculars with case, a Sasquatch Spotter/Seneca Parks logo, a backpack with the Seneca Parks logo and a solar charged battery bank. During the program, Ford invited people who attended to make a Sasquatch footprint cast. She said anyone who missed the chance to look for Sasquatch in 2021 or is interested in furthering the adventure should watch the Seneca Parks social media page because Sasquatch might decide to make another appearance this summer.
