Terra State receives funds for additional scholarships

FREMONT — Terra State Community College is to offer additional scholarships through its Short-Term Certificate Grant Program. A collaboration with the Ohio Department of Higher Education awarded an additional $13,750 toward the STCGP. According to information provided by the college, the STCGP allows students to receive a certificate for up to $2,000 each. To enroll, current and prospective students must show financial need, the college said. "The Short-Term Certificate Grant Program is a great opportunity for students to reduce out-of-pocket expenses that other financial aid may not cover. We are pleased to be able to offer this grant to students and assist them in easing the financial burden of reaching their educational goals," Jessica McCarthy, coordinator of Financial Aid at Terra State, said in a release provided by the college. The program includes 200 short-term certificates, which students can achieve to obtain skills needed in certain fields. Programs include credit and non-credit courses. "Many of the courses are online and the scholarship covers most, if not all, of the cost to allow people the ability to gain necessary skills needed to propel them into the workplace," Holly Hoffman, Terra State coordinator of Community Education, said in the release. The additional 207 non-credit certificates are available through the Kern Center.
