Tiffin school board recognizes student achievement

During a meeting of the Tiffin City Board of Education Monday evening, various students were recognized for their recent achievements. Students recognized included: Daniel Franklin, first graduate of the Tiffin Tornado Academy; Tiffin Columbian Governor's Youth Art Exhibition winners Mary Kidwell and Anna Reuter; Tiffin Columbian Band, which received a Superior rating in the District 2 Large Group OMEA Adjudicated event; Tiffin Columbian Cheerleaders, who won a State Championship in the Division III Game Day Routine and second runner-up placement in Division III Traditional Routine at the OASSA State Championships; Tiffin Columbian Concert Choir and Gold Choir, who earned a superior rating in the District 2 Large Group OMEA Adjudicated event; and Tiffin Columbian Wrestlers State Champion Brody Conley, State Runner-Up Bret Minnick, Sixth Place Max Ray and Third Place Maddox Simcoe. In addition, during the meeting, the board provided an update on the superintendent search. There are three weeks remaining in the posting for the position, with seven applicants currently. During the meeting, the board entered into an executive session to consider the dismissal and discipline of a public employee or official. Following the executive session, the board approved the resignation of Kaylene Kiefer, a 2-3 Krout Elementary School teacher in the MD Unit, effective April 8, 2022. In other news, the board: Heard committee reports. Heard the first reading of parent and student handbooks and board policies. Approved employment, retirements and resignations. Accepted donations and grants. Approved the renewal of a contract with Frontline Education in the amount of $4,647 from Aug. 24, 2022-Aug. 23, 2023. Approved a program contract with the North Central Ohio Educational Service Center for SchoolsPLP Online Curriculum software licenses from Aug. 1, 2021-July 31, 2022 in the amount of $12,025, at $185 per license at 65 licenses. Approved a county service agreement and contract for the fiscal year 2022 with the NCOESC for education services in the amount of $1,337,375. Approved a lease agreement with East Toledo Family Center (Help Me Grow) for a room at Lincoln Pre-K Elementary School. Approved a 2022-2023 CCP agreement with Tiffin University in the amount of $1,666 per credit hour. Approved a revised, tentative agreement for 2022 re-opener for wages between the Tiffin Education Association in the amount of a 3% increase and one lump sum of $750 for each member to be paid in 2022. The next regular meeting is to take place at 6:30 p.m. on April 25 at the Tiffin Middle School, 103 Shepherd Drive.
