Alumni named new Clyde superintendent

Lucas Messer, a Clyde-Green Springs High School alumni, has been named the new superintendent of the Clyde-Green Springs School District. Messer will be familiarizing himself with the staff, students and community as he returns to "Flier Nation," a release from the school district states. Over the next two months, Messer will be in the district to meet new faces and reconnect with others, it states. He expressed his sincere appreciation to the Board of Education for "entrusting him with this opportunity and the responsibility for making the CGS School District a great experience for students," the release states. He is tentatively set to begin in the position at the end of June, it states. Messer began his teaching career in 2005 at McPherson Middle School in Clyde. In addition to teaching, he was active in athletics and other school activities, including coaching different levels of basketball and serving as a Clyde-Green Springs Education Association representative, as well as being a part of the Building Leadership Team and a District Leadership Team member. In 2015, Messer began as Assistant Principal in the middle school at Port Clinton Schools for seven years. In a letter to staff, he noted throughout his career he has been fortunate enough to work and grow in two wonderful school districts and learn from many leaders, the release states. Messer and his wife, Rachel, have been married for almost 18 years. Rachel Messer is a secretary at Clyde Elementary School. Together, they have one son, Cedric, who is a freshman at Clyde High School. Messer said he is eager to work as a community to strive for progress and overcome challenges, and the CGS School District Board of Education is "excited to see the great opportunities Messer will bring to the school district and community," the release reads.
