Commissioner convicted of OVI

Seneca County Commissioner Tyler Shuff was found guilty Monday of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The conviction follows a December 2021 traffic stop initiated by an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper after he observed Shuff fail to use his turn signal, according to a police report. Shuff was given a breathalyzer test and blew a blood alcohol content of .228, a spokesperson for the Norwalk Post of State Highway Patrol said in December. The legal BAC limit in Ohio is .08. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail with 84 days suspended and one year of probation, and was ordered to pay a fine of $750 and complete the Driver Intervention program by Oct. 1. His driver's license was also ordered suspended with restricted driving privileges and six points added to his driver's license, per the court docket. Shuff has filed an appeal and was granted a stay of execution of his sentence until an appeals hearing, which is still pending. Regarding Shuff's sentence, a fine hearing has been scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 4. Shuff declined to comment at this time as the legal process is still ongoing, a spokesperson for the county commissioners said.
