Local to open first art studio A new art studio is set to open the end of July or early August in downtown Tiffin. Chelsea Mullins, a Columbian High School graduate, is the owner of the new Studio2 located at 193 S. Washington St. The location is shared by the new Heart of Ohio Sports (HOOS). Mullins' portion of the studio space will be called "Awkwardly Wandering Artworks and Oddities." A brand she created in 2016 centered around her fascination in strange art as well as a dancing flow prop called a Leviwand. The studio will display and sell artwork and host art classes. "I'm really excited to share with the community what I've been keeping to myself the past few years," Mullins said. "Nate (owner of Heart of Ohio Sports) and I have been doing public service for the community for over 10 years but always had the desire to take that passion and turn it into something that can benefit our family." Mullins said their focus has shifted toward "self-improvement. "We're taking risks and chances by investing in ourselves," she said. "This was an opportunity that we simply could not pass up!" Mullins also works for HOOS as their sports photographer and works at Reclaim It 127. Mullins earned a fine art and art history degree from Terra State Community College. She has been painting professionally for close to nine years. She focuses on commission work, portraits, murals, sculpting, and performance art. She currently serves as co-vice chair of the Tiffin Municipal Arts Commission and recently painted the mural at Your Legacy Federal Credit Union in honor of their recent expansion. Mullins' paint classes will offer a more interpretive/introspective approach, where she will encourage students to explore more about color and experiment as they create their individual creations. "As they 'embrace the awkward' to learn more about themselves as they paint, everyone's result is individual to them instead of copying right along with me," she said. Mullins has experience in conducting local art events, like the Tiffin Music and Art Festival and successful Paint and a Pint classes at the Tiffin Brewery. Mullins said she will also advertise murals and visual performing arts, such as live painting at personal/local events and flow arts, this will be under her professional name "Chelsea Mullins Professional Artist." Mullins said she hopes to one day have studio space for consignment of other local artists, offer a variety of art classes (ex. mosaic, pour art, mini sculptures), and hopefully, rent out studio space for local artists to store and create their art. "As my personal collection of oddities has taken over most of my home, my intention is to grow upon that in the new studio space to use as artistic references and wonderful conversation," Mullins said.
