Attica man hospitalized after accidental shooting

ATTICA — A 20-year-old man was injured after apparently shooting himself accidentally Wednesday. The Seneca County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call about a 20-year-old male who sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his torso. The shooting was reported as accidental, according to a press release. Deputies and emergency personnel arrived at the scene, 1530 S. TR 197, Attica. The victim was identified as Dustin Powers, of Attica. Emergency personnel, Seneca County ECHO unit and Bloom/Scipio EMS began life-saving measures upon their arrival, the release said. The man was initially transported to Mercy Health - Willard Hospital and then transported to Mercy Health - St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, by LifeFlight. Seneca County sheriff's detectives were called to assist with the investigation. "Our deputies and detectives are presently going through statements, interviewing witnesses and examining physical evidence at the scene to determine if any violations of law had been made," Sheriff Fred Stevens said in the release. "This investigation is considered ongoing."
