TCS approves to non-renew coach contract

During a special meeting of the Tiffin City Board of Education, the board decided not to renew a Columbian coach's contract following an executive session. The board approved not to renew a one-year, supplemental pupil contract for Amy Cooper as head varsity girls basketball coach at Columbian High School. The item was brought to the board at its May regular meeting. Superintendent Michael Zalar said he had meetings with Athletic Director Daniel Hartsel and Columbian High School Principal Forrest Trisler, and the athletic department decided it was going in a "new direction." The recommendation was made due to the lack of individual growth of players, he said. Board President Meagan McBride said it was the board's responsibility to look at the process of evaluation and protocols and determined the chain of command and steps were followed and decided not to renew the contract. The vote to not renew the contract was unanimous. McBride said all supplemental pupil contracts are one-year in duration and have an automatic non-renewal clause. On another matter, the board approved the employment of teachers for the summer program. Teachers are to be paid $28.60 per hour. Teachers to work during the summer program are Allen Auble, Leigh Alvarado, Megan Caulder, Sarah Cook, Kaylee Cottom, Donald Ferstler, Daniel Gilbert, Robert Hawk, Kimberly Heyman, Natalie Jones, Charlotte Lininger, Jeanette Marshall and Emily Tobolt. Wendy Demith was hired as a substitute for the program and is to earn the pay of $28.60 per hour as well.
