Attica couple opens greenhouse

ATTICA — Husband and wife duo Billy and Johni Mullet have been celebrating the spring season by stocking their new greenhouse with specialty floral hanging baskets, flats of flowers, vegetable plants and more. Country View Greenhouses, 4649 S. SR 4, Attica, which opened in early April, provides fresh greenery supplied by the Mullets and community members. Most of the flower baskets available are grown in a greenhouse within the village of Shiloh, where Billy said they buy the baskets in bulk. Flowers found at the greenhouse include impatiens, wave petunias, pansies and geraniums, among many other kinds. Produce will be made available within the coming summer months, and will include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables such as sweet corn, tomatoes, cabbage, peppers, lettuce, cucumbers, zucchini and watermelon, to name a few. "We grow it out in our field," Billy said of the produce. Country View Greenhouse also provides homemade honey, Billy said, adding that he raises his own bees and also supplies the honey he makes to other local vendors. Johni's grandmother also supplies the greenhouse with handmade knitwear items sold at the checkout counter. The Mullets reported they have received very positive feedback from the community since initially opening the greenhouse. "There's no other greenhouse here, so everybody's excited to have a greenhouse here in town," Billy said. "I couldn't ask for a better response from the local community." Next year, Billy said they are planning to add an additional greenhouse and sell even more local produce and plants. "And hopefully every year to come after that (it) expands a little bit more," he added.
