Board approves staff contracts; bowling made official

ATTICA — The Seneca East Board of Education met on May 24, with the following board members present: Dan Stacklin, Jay Zeiter, Eric Gillett, Valerie Phillips and Kelly Shock. During the meeting, the board approved the treasurer's report as presented, including the May financial report, revised five-year forecast, amended appropriations, $13,500 in donations from Attica Raceway for scholarships and the 2023 Seneca East Public Library tax budget. The 2022 graduate class was also approved. In addition, the middle school and high school student handbooks were approved for the 2022-23 school year. Classified staff — one-year and two-year contracts — were also approved by the board. Certified staff contracts were also approved. The board also approved the North Central Ohio Education Service Center service contract for the fiscal year 2023 was approved in the amount of $436,803. The board also approved the list of athletic and non-athletic supplemental contracts for the fiscal year 2023. In addition, the board approved non-renewing all fiscal year 2023 supplemental contracts. On another matter, the board approved the prices for preschool breakfast at $1.50 and preschool lunch at $2.60 and the reduced price is 40 cents for lunch and 30 cents for breakfast. The board also approved the stone payment for the bus driveway turnaround from $50 to $100. The district was also approved for the fiscal year 2023 Mental Health and Recovery Services Board Levy Grant Funds of $15,200. A contract was awarded for George Parks as the varsity girls' basketball coach for the 2022-23 school year. The district also approved a College Credit Plus agreement with Terra State Community College. Following an executive session for the purpose of considering personnel, the board approved the following resignations — Zack Hoy, Courtney Warner, Kevin Dick, Peyton Spiess and Don Vogt. June meeting The Seneca East Board of Education met on June 13 with all board members present — Dan Stacklin Jay Zeiter, Eric Gillett, Valeria Phillips and Kelly Shock. During the meeting, the board approved the treasurer's report including the financial report for May 31, amended permanent appropriations for 2021, temporary appropriations for 2023 and advances. The board also approved several consent agenda items, including the resignation of Amber Hescht as a seventh-grade volleyball coach, hiring of mentors and approved several supplemental staff contracts. The board also accepted the semi-annual report for Formal Incidences of Bullying/Harassment as reported by principals. The data is posted at the school district website. A $500 donation to the Attica Independent Fair Junior Live Stock Sale was also approved during the meeting. The high school bowling team was also approved as an OHSAA-offered sport for the 2022-23 school year. In addition the Middle School Bowling Club was approved for the 2022-2023 school year. Stephanie Miller was approved to serve as a volunteer advisor for the club along with Nate Miller. The board approved the SORSA participation agreement and General Liability and Educators Legal Liability and Automobile and Physical Damage coverage at a total premium of $51,468. During the meeting, the board also approved the hiring of the following staff members — Justin Drennen, health/physical education; Cody Scott, high school math; Hannah Wagner, art; and substitute teachers Falynne Hoyda and Bram White. The board approved a resolution to declare an intent to cooperate with OME-RESA ITC for cooperative services for fiscal year 2023.
