Farmers, artisan market this weekend

At a time when people don't seem to agree on much, few wouldn't like to be at least a bit healthier. Some hints on the topic are sure to be found at Saturday's Fostoria Farmers' & Artisans' Market, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Market Square Park, located at the intersection of Main and Tiffin streets. ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital/Sodexo are sponsoring the event, which has the theme "Healthy Living," and will be offering free homemade ice pops, recipes and cereal bowls while supplies last. In addition to the market, some businesses will offer bargains as part of Downtown Fostoria Summer Open House Weekend. "With nearly 50 vendors scheduled to participate in the Fostoria Farmers' & Artisans' Market on Saturday, there will be something for everyone," Michele Cochran, community development/tourism director for the Fostoria Economic Development Corporation and Fostoria Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Bureau, said. "Items offered will include produce, flowers, honey, baked goods, personal products, plus a wide variety of very unique handcrafted items and more. "There are many activities tied to the market as well as at other businesses during this Downtown Summer Open House Weekend. We encourage everyone to come out with friends to shop at the market and our downtown businesses and then stay for live music on The UrbanWoody Brewery stage, beginning at 1 p.m." The band Malibu Bay is scheduled to play on the stage between 1 and 4 p.m., followed by Spoiled Rotten from 6-9. Food will be available from the OTR Smokehouse food truck between 5 and 9 p.m. Shortly after the market opens, at 10 a.m., the Seneca Park District, at the intersection of Main and North streets, will host a session about hummingbirds, including information about what they eat, which flowers they like and other facts. From 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., in the Park and Shop Lot, next to the market, the Seneca County General Health District will provide a mobile COVID-19 vaccination unit. Just In Time medical clinic will provide free health screenings at the market, and the Fostoria Lions Club will conduct free vision screenings for preschoolers.
