Tiffin Historic Trust Jackie Fletcher introduced guest Amanda Davidson at the Aug. 1, Tiffin Historic Trust board meeting. A Tiffin resident, Davidson is the education and tour coordinator for the Lorain County Historical Society in Elyria. Jade Wagner and Jacob Price attended their first meeting of the Tiffin Historic Trust as newly elected board members. Treasurer Mike Pinkston reviewed three months of financial reports as the board has been on summer break. Although investments have dropped in value due to the current market, the Garden Tour produced income and the organization received several gifts including one from Tiffin Metal designated for electrical work on the carriage house. On Aug. 13, a group of first-year Heidelberg students will be providing help at the Grammes-Brown House doing yard and inside work as part of their service learning experience. The Ohio History Connection's Open Door program provides an opportunity for communities to showcase its historic places and landmark buildings. This year Tiffin's featured building will be the Grammes-Brown House. On Sept. 18, during the Heritage Festival, guests will be able to tour the Historic Trust's own headquarters including the rarely seen upstairs rooms. Volunteers will be available to describe the architectural features as well as life in the Victorian home. Jackie Fletcher noted that Rosina Brown's great niece recently visited and donated several items related to the benefactor who bequeathed the home to the Historic Trust. Nevin Martin and Mike Pinkston are working on the online walking tours that will be accessible from the Tiffin Historic Trust's website. The first tour under development will be a pub crawl highlighting Tiffin's many taverns and their interesting architecture. The second proposed tour will feature community art, such as the recently installed traffic control box wraps. Upcoming programs include a Halloween Tea on Oct. 8 and the Mystery Bourbon Tasting with Dave Spridgeon on Oct. 16. The Annual Holiday House Tour will be Dec. 4 followed by the traditional Chili Supper for tour hosts, members and friends on Dec. 5. Seneca Toastmasters #1845 Seneca Toastmasters #1845 met on Tuesday in the Kernan Room of the Tiffin Seneca Public Library at 7 p.m. with six members present. President Tom Burwell opened the meeting and introduced John Curtin as Toastmaster for the evening. Curtin called upon Suzanne Black for the opening and Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Humorist Curtin told a funny story. Topicmaster Jim Black present the word "relish" meaning and appreciation of an item and continued with Tabletopics asking the following questions: Jessica Lang – What is your favorite event at the Fair? Burwell—What is you opinion of Fairs in general? Curtin – What is your opinion of the Demolition Derby? Ellen Drake – What is your favorite summertime activity? Suzanne Black – What is your favorite Fair food? General Evaluator Curtin commented on the meeting and called for reports from Timer Burwell and Grammarian Suzanne Black. President Burwell conducted a short business meeting. Ellen Drake and Jessica Lang were accepted into membership. It was determined that beginning in Sept., meetings will be held the second and fourth Tuesdays at 7 p.m. The next meeting will be Aug. 9 in the Jr. Home Room at 7 p.m. Guests are always welcome to attend meetings and learn about Toastmasters. Fostoria High School Reunion Fostoria High School's class of 1967 recently celebrated its 55-year reunion with the theme "Blast From the Past."The three-day function began with a meet-and-greet session at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, continued the next day with the official reunion at Fostoria Country Club and concluded the following day with a gathering at the New Riegel Cafe.Approximately 91 people attended the official reunion, where Pam Maurer Youngston served as master of ceremonies and Kathy's Corner of Arcadia provided the catering. High school girls ensemble members Diane Kemp Klopp, Ilene Strausbaugh Geary and Marty Spellerberg Green led the class in singing the alma mater and Lynne Evenbeck Long read the list of 20 deceased classmates in the last five years.Jon Brandeberry and Jim Buckingham hosted a veterans' honor ceremony. Marty Spellerberg Green read a proclamation from former President Barack Obama. Classmates Buckingham, Brandeberry, Terry Slater, Danny Childers, Bill Holden, Walter Bemesderfer, Dave Newlove and Todd Russell received 50-year pins and the proclamation. Betsy Dillon accepted the pin for her husband, David Dillon.Reunion committee members were then introduced: co-chairs Marla Stiger and Lynne Evenbeck Long, treasurer Youngston and members Buckingham, Holden, Dona Coker Howard, Tom Kochheiser, Susan Florea Waltermeyer and Doris Coker Whatley. On July 31, 2022, the Seneca East High School class of 1972 celebrated its 50th Class Reunion at the Willard Moose Lodge in Willard with approximately 41 classmates and guests attending. A social hour was enjoyed followed by a delicious buffet prepared by the Reedtown Tavern. A memorial table displayed pictures the 17 classmates that have passed since graduation. They are Robert Bean, Carol Elchert, Jim Graham, Kathy (Rollins) Harding, Marsha (Herr) Harnly, Randy Hamilton, Bill Hooven, Patty (Rhinehart) Lewis, Vicki (Aukland) Kanney, Chuck Reichert, Janet (Spotts) Reiter, Mick Reiter, Dave Robison, Kenny Rohrbacher, Anita Schumacher, Rita Seeley, and Roger Young. The class donates books in memory of each deceased classmate in the classmate's memory at the Seneca East Public Library. The class' memorial fund finances this activity. A 50-50 drawing and raffle items sold in a silent auction helped to further increase the memorial fund. Sheryl (Haver) Wall was recognized for her years of organizing the class reunions. Ken and Cindy Shoup were honored for their donation of the table decorations. On July 29, 2022, the Seneca East High School Class of 1972 invited classmates from the Attica High School Classes of 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1973, 1975 and 1978. At the Moose Lodge in Willard, a total of 96 classmates attended this gathering and enjoyed hor'sdeurves served by the Reedtown Tavern and a lovely evening of reminiscing and sharing memories lasted several hours. Kiwanis Club of Tiffin Andrew Morgan, interim president of Mercy Health Tiffin and Mercy Health Willard Hospitals, was the featured speaker at the Aug. 4 meeting with 16 in attendance at Kiwanis Manor plus three via Zoom. Andrew began at Mercy Tiffin as Chief Financial Officer for the Mercy Health Rural Division that includes Mercy Tiffin, Mercy Willard and Mercy Defiance two years ago. The president of Mercy Health – St. Anne took another position within Mercy Health and Rural Division president Dan Barbee was asked to take the interim president roll at St. Anne while Andrew was asked to take the interim roll for Mercy Tiffin and Willard. Andrew was born in Austrialia and lived in Colorado and Florida before coming to Ohio. What drew him to work for Mercy Health were the health system's Mission Statement, Vision Statement and Core Values. He said that the hospital's leadership team meets daily to assure that they are meeting the Mercy Promise. Andrew presented a brief history of Mercy Health – Tiffin Hosptal and the Sisters of Mercy. The Sisters of Mercy began in Ireland in 1831 by its foundress Catherine McAuley. The Sisters of Mercy came to the United States in 1843. Mother Bernardine McMullen saw the need for healthcare in Tiffin and led the building of Mercy Hospital here in 1912. The hospital opened in 1913 at the previous location on West Market Street where Fifth Third Bank and O'Reilly Auto Parts are currently located. The original hospital occupied 14,800 square feet and was built for $75,000. It had 35 rooms and two operating rooms. Since that time the original hospital saw two major expansions before the current hospital was opened in 2008. The hospital now has 59 beds including 39 medical/surgical rooms, five ICU rooms, 10 obstetric beds, 14 emergency care beds and 10 Operating Room suites. Other services include diagnostic imaging, cardiology, home care, a sleep lab, outpatient rehab & therapy and oncology. Andrew's power point presentation included showing the hospital's many affiliated physicians. He said he is proud of Mercy Tiffin's many accolades including being named one of the top 100 hospitals in the country, one of the best places to work and, once again, receiving a 5-Star rating from CMS. The meeting opened with club president Eric Willman leading members in the Pledge of Allegiance. John Millar provided the prayer. Eric thanks those that helped with the past week's Seneca County Fair and the five members that formed an interclub in attending the division meeting in Sandusky. Help is needed for the upcoming Kiwanis Garage Sale and for the Aug. 28 Grade A Celebration. A summer picnic is planned for Sept. 15. He also read a thank you note from the Seneca County Youth Center for a recent donation. Leslie Reinhart and Julie Adkins celebrated their birthdays. Tom Schweitzer won the 50/50.
