NAMI Northwest to merge with Huron County

FREMONT - NAMI Northwest and NAMI Huron County are pleased to announce that NAMI Huron County will be merging with NAMI Northwest. NAMI Huron County was founded by the late Larry McGlinchy, who, like many family members caring for a loved one with mental illness, found getting help frustrating and isolating. He began NAMI Huron County as a way to provide the help he, and so many others, desperately needed. NAMI Huron County has provided invaluable services to Huron County residents and is excited to expand the services, programming, and resources available to their community with the NAMI Northwest merger. NAMI Northwest serves Seneca, Ottawa, Sandusky, Wyandot and Huron Counties. It helps families and individuals living with, or affected by, a mental health condition. In 2021, they provided information to more than 2,500 individuals and families, provided 50 support groups, presented suicide awareness outreach to over 600 individuals and provided crisis intervention training to 150 law enforcement officers, first responders, and community members. Its Navigation program provides individualized care to assist individuals and families struggling to connect to mental health resources and is currently serving over 40 individuals and families. The merger is an opportunity to continue the work NAMI Huron County has been doing for many years while allowing NAMI to provide growing resources and programming to Huron County residents. Individuals and families looking for mental health support are encouraged to attend the NAMI support group on the 2nd Monday of the month at Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Avenue, Norwalk 6:30- 8:00 p.m. The next support group will be Monday, September 9, 2022. You can also support NAMI through its 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $5 each and will be sold at the Huron County Fair in the new commercial building. The drawing will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022. NAMI Northwest is a non-profit organization and proceeds from the raffle go directly into its programs and resources.
