Tiffin 200 window display features 'Tiffin things'

Seneca County Historical Society's downtown window display this month offers a variety of items called "All Things Tiffin" because they have the Tiffin name on them. Included are three sizes of vintage yellow Ballreich potato chip cans, and four lard cans, a product not seen much anymore. The display also includes three candy containers from The Harter Candy Company located on Court Street from 1892 until 1914, which could produce up to 10,000 pounds of chocolates a day. Two egg containers are on display from the Gray & White Company, which specialized in butter, shell eggs, frozen eggs and dressed poultry on the corner of Adams and Franklin streets from 1913-1953. The historical society also has a sign, ice tongs, ice picks and a window card from "The Smith Coal & Ice Company," which was in business on Hudson Street from the late 1890s until the 1970s. Also included in the display are an assortment of coat hangers from area tailors, cleaners and clothing stores, plus a variety of rulers that advertised Tiffin businesses selling everything from buggies to hardware. The display is in the window of the law office of Randall C. Schwartz, 66 S. Washington St., next to Bailiwicks Coffee Shop.
