Eagles drop Dragons in key GMAC game

ASHLAND – Tiffin University took its perfect GMAC record on the road to No. 6 Ashland and came away with a close 28-20 loss. The Eagles (7-0, 5-0) led 14-3 at the half and held on from there. After a scoreless first period, Ashland's Larry Martin ran in a 6-yard TD to give the Eagles a 7-0 advantage. TU (4-3, 4-1) responded with a 20-yard Nick Basile field goal, but then the Eagles took a 14-3 lead after a 17-yard TD pass from Austin Brenner to Logan Bolin. The Dragons got back in the game to begin the second half as Devin Nelson plunged into the end zone from a yard out and then Basile nailed a 25-yard field goal to bring TU within 14-14 with 7:09 left in the third.But Ashland scored two TDs in a row to pull ahead 28-13 after a 9-yard TD run by Austin Brenner and then a 27-yard TD run from Martin. TU's final score was a 30-yard pass to Jack Stultz from Christian Carter.The Eagles outrushed the Dragons 215-120 as Martin had 27 carries for 124 yards. Carter was 14 of 20 passing for 209 yards for the Dragons, while Nelson was held to 13 carries for 57 yards. Anthony Lowe caught five passes for 69 yards.
