Miller claims regional crown with school record

New London's Reese Landis handed Macie Miller her lone defeat this year in the season's second contest, back in late August at the Seneca East Tiger Classic.There, Landis overpowered everyone with a win in 18:13.9, a little more than 46 seconds faster than Miller's runner-up effort.Saturday, Miller atoned in a big way.In what's become a regular occurrence this year, the junior blazed her way to victory, setting another school record in winning the individual Division III regional title at Hedges-Boyer Park in 18:04.9, a full 18 seconds ahead of Landis in the runner-up spot.The effort also qualified her for the state meet, set for this Saturday at Fortress Obetz in Obetz.She'll be joined there by Seneca East's Lilly Schiefer, who captured fifth in 18:43.9. Schiefer was Seneca East's only regional qualifier.No other area girls runners or teams gained state berths.The top seven teams and top 28 runners all qualified for state.Minster cruised to the team title with 76 points, with Colonel Crawford holding off Patrick Henry 151-156 for second. Liberty Center took fourth (170), with Ottawa Hills (201), Huron (230) and Fort Recovery (265) claiming the other team state berths.Old Fort finished 13th (330) and Hopewell-Loudon came in 23rd (538). Carey, Lakota, Mohawk and New Riegel all had individual runners compete at the regional.Hannah Tackett added an 80th (21:26.5) for Old Fort, Ryanne Benner took 91st (21:34.1), Elizabeth Straub ended 125th (22:00.3) and Cameran Cleveland finished 137th (22:14.5).Stockaders Audrey Dymond (184th, 25:31.9) and Jenna Quinter (188th, 27:03.3) also competed.Hannah Schreiner's 118th (21:49.1) led Hopewell-Loudon, Izabella Frankart came in 131st (22:08), Alivia Roerdink (22:30.9) and Emily Arbogast (22:35.5) crossed the line 145th and 146th, and Emma Hintze wound up 149th (22:39.8).Abby Oswalt (161st, 23:03.7) and Hanna Wyman (171st, 23:38) rounded out the Chieftains.Chloe Etzinger of Carey captured 45th (20:28.5), Lakota's Grace Kehn took 85th (21:30.3), Addison Horner of Mohawk finished 101st (21:40.5) and New Riegel's Isabelle Wood ended 121st (21:58).
