Fostoria 6th-grader interviews Micah Hyde

Editor's note: Claire Reese, a sixth-grader at Fostoria Elementary School, wrote the following story for the school newspaper, Redmen's World, after joining Review Times Staff Writer Scott Cottos for a recent phone interview with Micah Hyde.Hyde, a Fostoria High School graduate, is an All-Pro safety for the NFL's Buffalo Bills who has not played this season since suffering a neck injury in September that necessitated surgery. FOSTORIA --- Hi, I'm Claire Reese and this newspaper is very important to me, so I wanted to ask Mr. Scott Cottos, who works for the Review Times newspaper, some questions about this paper. He offered to let me interview the one and only Micah Hyde! I asked Micah the questions the other editors and I had prepared, and here is what I found out! When Micah started playing football, he was only 12 years old. He was playing soccer, baseball and basketball. All he worried about was making it to practice, keeping his grades up and what middle school would be like. Micah was inspired to play football by the Redmen, how happy it made everyone, and how it has brought people together. We asked Micah what he would tell someone who was interested in sports as much as he was, and he said, "Sports are tough and hard. They get you down all the time but can also bring so much joy into our lives. Sports teach you so much, too." We also asked what the secret was to his success. He explained: "Hard work was. I don't know where I would be right now if I didn't work hard all the time. Sacrifice is a big part of it, too, you know. I have missed so many parties and sleepovers because of school and practices." Now, this is the question we have all been asking -- WHEN WILL HE PLAY AGAIN? Micah has never missed a game before since high school! He has been working out, practicing, and going to the games. He can do anything but get on the field and play. Micah has been helping coach his replacement and he has been enjoying it, too. Micah has been healing faster than his peers and doctors have thought. He is trying to play again this season! He now has a new perspective on life and the people around him. Micah Hyde is so very grateful our school and community have done for him. We are grateful for all he has done for Fostoria and for always staying a member of the Fostoria Redmen family!
