Potential Taylor Swift ticket scams

Two people have reached out to the A-T to report that they have been the victims of scams involving the selling of Taylor Swift tickets. Both women reported they purchased tickets for her upcoming concert off of Facebook Marketplace. When they went to pay, the information provided was for a different individual. The person whose information had been provided is an alleged Tiffin resident. The tickets purchased were later found to be fake. One woman provided an email from Eventbrite, the ticketing website that the tickets were supposed to be through. In part it reads: "We are reaching out to you as our Trust and Security team has identified an unauthorized seller offering fraudulent "Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour" tickets for sale. We believe you have been impacted by this incident, and wish to advise that if you have recently received tickets and made payment outside of Eventbrite, these are not official tickets to this event. One victim provided information that she paid the person through Zelle. The A-T nor the victims were able to locate the scam post that had been posted. It has likely been taken down at this time and the victims have been blocked from the scamming profile and the personal profile. "Currently, there is a nationwide scam to purchase Taylor Swift concert tickets online," said Tiffin Police Chief Dave Pauly. "Please don't fall for this latest scam." "The scam works like this - a post on a Facebook page indicating Taylor Swift tickets are for sale. The alleged seller would have the victim of this scam send money to an email account through Zelle or another payment application. Upon payment, the fake seller may ask for additional money. The victim will NEVER receive these tickets. When it seems too good to be true...it is!" Pauly provided the following tips to avoid scams: Please do your research on the companies, ticket resellers, or event organizers Avoid purchasing tickets from individuals who post on online marketplaces such as Facebook Be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true...they are!! Use official websites and authorized ticket brokers to buy your tickets Don't use online payment methods, prepaid debit cards or gift cards as payment. Instead, opt to use a credit card on a secure website (look for HTTPS) as a payment method. Finally, if you haven't reported a scam to your local authorities please do. At the very least please contact the Better Business Bureau. Currently, the Tiffin Police have not received any calls for such a scam, but in the event, a citizen finds themselves involved in this ticket scam, please contact the Tiffin Police Department at 419-447-2323 to speak with a detective.
