Treasurer resigns

At the Tiffin City School Board meeting Monday evening, Treasurer Sharon Perry's resigned. Perry's retirement is effective at the end of August 2023. Her retirement comes after serving the district for 13 years. In the resignation letter read at the meeting, Perry thanked the district for her years of employment and expressed her gratitude for the education all of her children received through Tiffin City Schools. Each board member and Superintendent Ben Richards thanked Perry for her years of service, patience, expertise and for educating them on various aspects of school finances. Also at the meeting, the board selected the president and vice president of the board. In a unanimous decision, the board elected Dr. Meagan McBride as president and Dustin Williams as vice president. The board discussed changes to board committees. The decision was made to combine the Policy and Governance Committee with the Records Committee. Richards explained that the Records Committee is used for the disposal of records which is done per policy, so it makes sense to have the disposal of records as part of Policy and Governance as that committee makes the policies for disposal. It was also decided that the Personnel Committee be dissolved. Richards explained that within the past six years, nobody could recall that committee being used for anything. Perry explained that the Personnel Committee used to handle job descriptions and recommend new positions. However, that responsibility has shifted to the administration which then is presented to the board for adoption. Richards also discussed the creation of the Superintendent Advisory Committee. While it is not a board committee, he expressed interest in the board appointing two members to the committee to provide board representation. He explained that the committee is to talk about school facility issues and will be comprised of about 70 people to represent different aspects of the community. The board then carried out committee assignments as follows: Business Advisory Council Chairperson: Dr. Andrew Gase Larry Kisabeth Finance Committee Chairperson: Williams Victor Perez Support Services Chairperson: Kisabeth McBride Superintendent Advisory Committee Williams Kisabeth Legislative Liaison Perez Student Achievement Liaison McBride Policy, Governance and Records Chairperson: Perez Williams The board also appointed school-building assignments as follows: Lincoln Pre-K: McBride Washington K-1: Kisabeth Krout 2-3: Kisabeth Noble 4-5: Gase Tiffin Middle School: Williams Columbian High School: Perez It then decided on McBride as the delegate to OSBA 2023 fall conference with Kisabeth as the alternate, approved standing authorizations for calendar year 2023, approved Richards as the agent for all federal, state and privately funded projects during calendar year 2023, the alternative tax budget and Ohio schools' council policy change. Richards also briefly discussed the superintendent's district restructuring plan. The plan is in a PDF on the school's website: www.tiffincityschools.org.
