TCS begins treasurer search

At the Tiffin City Schools board meeting Monday night, the board approved NCOESC to conduct the search for a new treasurer. Brenda Luhring of NCOESC attended the meeting to provide a timeline of the search process. She explained that if the board approved the search Monday night, the applications and announcements would be put out Tuesday. Applications are due Feb. 10. Feb. 13 – 17, NCOESC will meet with the board to discuss the best candidates for interviews. After the first round of interviews, the board will then decide who it would like to move forward to the second round of interviews. Then Feb. 27 – Mar. 10 the second round of interviews will take place and a candidate will be selected. "Sharon is going to be a tough act to follow and we are going to ensure that we do our very best to find you the best quality candidate that you want as a board," Luhring said. She added that if all goes well, the new treasurer will be hired in March. The search for the new treasurer comes after current treasurer Sharon Perry announced her retirement after serving the district for 13 years. Perry's retirement will begin at the end of August 2023. Also at the meeting, Washington K-1 Principal Nicki Miller and first-grade helpers led the Pledge of Allegiance and expressed their appreciation of the school board. The students presented each of the board members with a Tiffin Tornadoes cutting board. Judy Downie then gave an update on the Krout Outdoor Learning Area, for which a grant was received. She said that the area has been completed and used for a few lessons, however, it is becoming too cold to utilize it often. Tiffin Columbian High School Principal David Alverado also discussed the graduation alternate location. He explained that in the past if there was inclement weather during graduation, the gymnasium and auditorium were utilized. Those with gold tickets were able to watch in the gymnasium and those with blue tickets had to watch a live stream of graduation in the auditorium. Alverado said that he decided to search for a better alternative option as the past arrangements were met with many complaints. He met with Tiffin University to discuss using the Heminger Center as the alternative location. He said that the university would charge the school $1,000 and would set up for graduation with assistance from the school, just in case there happens to be inclement weather. He further explained that tickets may be "sold" online to allow the school to keep track of how many tickets are ordered versus how many people actually attend. The tickets would come at no cost and would simply be done through an app or website to keep track of tickets. The board then approved the following items: 7.01 - Approved North Central Ohio Educational Service Center to conduct a Treasurer search on behalf of Tiffin City School District at no cost to the district. 7.02 - Approved the Title I letter of understanding with Fostoria City School District. 7.03 - Approved the speech-language pathologist service coverage agreement with Connie English. 7.04 - Adopted a resolution to restate OASBO 457 plan - the Ohio Association of School Business Officials 457 Deferred Compensation Plan effective Jan. 1, 2020, as amended and restated for the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act of 2020. 7.05 -Adopted social media guidelines for school board members 7.06 - Approved the agreement with Applewood Centers, Inc. for the provision of special education and certain related services for a specified student. 7.07 - Approved job descriptions - for the following jobs: Chief Operations Office, Chief Innovation and Accountability Officer, Chief Academic Officer, Chief District Engagement Officer, Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning, Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning, Director of Communications and Student Registration, TOSA- Secondary Special Education Coordinator (6-12) and District Behavior/Transition Specialist, TOSA- Elementary Special Education Coordinator (PreK-5) and District Literacy Specialist, TOSA- Coordinator of Instructional Technology Practices and Continuous Improvement (extended days), Coordinator of Tech Support, Business Director (Cat. III, 240) and Whole Child Director. The board then entered an executive session to consider the purchase or sale of public property with no action expected to be taken. The next board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the Tiffin Middle School Cafetorium.
