Tiffin Glass celebrates 25 years

The Tiffin Glass Museum and Shoppe, located at 25-27 S. Washington St., is celebrating its 25th year in 2023. To mark the occasion, the museum and shoppe will be open beginning Wednesday, Feb. 1. According to a press release from Destination Seneca County, the "hidden gem" will be open to visitors Wednesdays through Sundays from 12-4 p.m. New items will be displayed this year, including four additional cases with stemware, 1970's glass, and unique glassware. In addition, the shoppe will offer special deals throughout the year. In February, candle holders will be 10% off. Special events also will take place throughout the year. The museum opened in 1998, and currently displays more than 3,000 pieces of Tiffin Glass. Volunteer Paul Coffman said in the release, the museum is definitely a "can't miss" spot in the community due to the variety of pieces made. "The variety of glass made comes from all genres, with a concentration in stemware," he said. "People don't realize how big the factory was." "The museum focuses on preservation work, including acquiring glass, historical documents, and memorabilia from the Tiffin Glass Company," the release states. Glassware was produced at the Tiffin factory from 1889 - 1980. At the factory's peak, approximately 900 employees were making about 100,000 handblown pieces each week. Visitors to the shoppe will find products from the glass factory, collectibles and books. The release states, "donations of glassware, time, and memorabilia are welcome."
