Taking the plunge

The 22nd annual Tiffin Polar Bear Jump took place Saturday morning at Campden Falls Reception and Conference Center. Adam Smith, Owner/Operator of Camden Falls, said more than 174 jumpers took part in the event, which is up from 116 participants last year. Jumpers ranged in age from 8-79 years old, Smith said. Both Smith and Tiffin resident Stu Behm have participated in all 22 jump events, he said. While some participants this year were from out of town, he said, a majority were from the Seneca County area. The Polar Bear Jump raises money for F.A.C.T. (Financial Assistance for Cancer Treatment), which Smith said "is a great organization with volunteer board members." More than $20,000 was raised by this year's jump, he said, and those funds stay in the community. Smith said Tiell Financial Group and the Seneca East Student Council helped raise a significant amount of money for the event. Smith thanked Clinton Township Fire and Rescue for their time and the use of jumpsuits Saturday morning. The Heidelberg volleyball and basketball teams also volunteered at the Polar Bear Jump, he said.
