FOSTORIA --- The library in Fostoria is in the process of updating many areas around the library inside and out. Many areas have been updated or will be updated in the near future. Come check out the changes if you have not been to the library in a while. Adult programming will add more offerings this year at various days and times to attract library patrons. The library has also added many more media options for patrons including additional DVDs including new tv series and much more. The adult computer lab is busier than ever with 12 computers that were added during Covid in a newly renovated space. Along with all the digital offerings for reading, watching and listening the library continues to add new titles to the collection on topics that will interest everyone. The Children's Department, geared for children ages 0-12, has had some very exciting changes and a fresh new look. The library has added genre labels (sports, scary, adventure, fantasy, historical, humor, sci-fi, mystery) and has separated the books by their respective genres. Now patrons can browse their favorite sections and find their next great read. The Children's Department has an extensive array of programming. Storytimes for children ages 0-6 with a caregiver are every Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m. Baby and Toddler storytime for children ages 0-3 with a caregiver is every other Monday. The library also offers STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) programs for all ages; as well as, crafts, scavenger hunts, and monthly thematic parties The library also circulates board games, pre-bundled activity kits, video games, puzzles, and Early Literacy kits. All are available for free with your library card. There is an afterschool tutor from BGSU available for free thanks to the America Reads program. The tutor will provide homework help and reading practice for children in grades K-5. In addition, they are also offering after-school snacks from 3:30-4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday thanks to Connecting Kids to Meals. The library expanded its offerings of digital media to help in all the ways patrons approach reading. Including audiobooks on CDs, audiobooks on MP3 players, audiobooks built into the book, tablets with preloaded educational apps, and devices with videos of books and literacy help. There is also a great selection of free digital media available and accessible on any digital device. Try one of these digital offerings: Comics Plus (digital access to graphic novels and manga), Kanopy (digital access to movies and tv shows), Libby (digital access to ebooks, audiobooks, and emagazines), Hoopla (digital access to movies, tv shows, music, audiobooks), Flipster (digital access to magazines), INFOHIO (digital access to fiction and nonfiction books, learning resources and more) and Transparent Language (digital access to free in-depth language learning). Fruth Wetland Nature Preserve has a newly installed story walk for families to enjoy. Stories will be changed often. In Spring, a new one will be installed around the library. Additional story walks are being considered for various locations. The Teen Department, geared for adolescents ages 13-17, is getting a new and updated look including new carpet, more shelving, more books, and more programs. Currently, we have a teen Anime club on the first Wednesday of every month at 4 p.m. and teen Craft on the third Wednesday of every month at 4 p.m. The library has also added two driver's ed kits that include cones and instructions on how to practice maneuverability that can be checked out with your library card. You are not going to want to miss the fantastic plans for the near future: a Career and Resource Center, a Makerspace, a Bookmobile, and more. The Summer Reading Program, which spans all ages, will begin in Youth Services on May 15 and end Aug. 13, 2023. Details coming soon.
