Fliers fend off TC for Lake Division runner-up spot

NORWALK — Lance Overmyer and Will Stanley gained titles and five teammates also placed Saturday to help Clyde power past Columbian for the runner-up spot in the Lake Division at the Sandusky Bay Conference Championships.All three divisions — Lake, Bay and River — competed against each other in each weight class, with separate scores kept for each division.Perkins cruised to the Lake Division crown with 226 1/2 points, while the Fliers held off TC 133-108 for second.Sandusky edged Bellevue 93-92 for fourth, followed by Vermilion (91 1/2) and Norwalk (72).Both of Clyde's championships came on shutouts, with Overmyer blanking Edison 144-pounder Marcus Medina 5-0 and Stanley dropping Oak Harbor 157-pounder Christian Paul 7-0.C.J. Fisher added a second at 138 pounds for Clyde after falling 6-2 to Oak Harbor's Owen Miller.The Fliers also got thirds from 120-pounder Hunter Pollock, 132-pounder Michael Gassner and 190-pounder Mason Ash.Pollock pinned Bellevue's Ben Jacobs (1:48), Gessner beat Vermilion's Aiden Miller 5-3 and Ash turned back Lakota's Jon Rosas 4-3.Dawson Brimmer finished sixth for Clyde, falling 2-1 to Norwalk 126-pounder Austin Ware.Like Clyde, Columbian crowned a pair of champions.Landon Cook pinned Oak Harbor's Brock Mansor (2:28) for the 175-pound title, and 190-pounder Max Ray stuck Haiden Bollini of Perkins (1:37).Fourths for the Tornadoes came after Sawyer Smith of Perkins pinned 113-pounder Drew Aigler (2:35), and Sandusky 165-pounder Decarvion Jones beat Manny Aller 10-6.Taylin Bell added a sixth at 285 pounds after getting pinned by Adam West of Perkins (:55).Columbian 150-pounder Vaughn Zimmerman pinned Port Clinton's Caleb Spencer (:31) for seventh, and 120-pounder Preston Elchert ended eighth after falling 5-3 to Edison's Quentin Cox.Bellevue's Clay Alley ended second at 150 pounds, falling by default to Edison's Kohen Horvath.Along with Jacobs, Brock Meacham ended fourth at 106 pounds for the Redmen after getting pinned by Oak Harbor's Joey Judge.Jeremiah Hash added a fifth at 138 pounds by beating Hopewell-Loudon's Isreal Ortiz 7-2.Grant Woodruff ended sixth at 144 pounds following a 10-2 major decision loss to Oak Harbor's Jacob McDonald.The Redmen also got sevenths from 113-pounder Landon Lewis, 165-pounder Cole Beltran and 285-pounder Caidyn Nunez.Lewis won by default against Port Clinton's Joshua Cornell, Beltran dropped Huron's Ashton Perdue 10-4 and Nunez pinned Norwalk's Brendon Gross (2:57). Raiders roll to repeat River championshipNORWALK — Lakota didn't crown any individual champions. In fact, the Raiders had just two wrestlers reach the championship finals.But nine Raiders found their way to the podium Saturday as Lakota dominated the River Division of the Sandusky Bay Conference Championships to claim back-to-back conference crowns.Lakota steamrolled past Hopewell-Loudon 131-35 for the SBC River Division title, with Calvert taking third with 32 1/2 points. Biddle was pinned by Zach Oprzadek of Perkins (3:25), and Clyde's Mason Ash slipped past Rosas 4-3.Sixths for the Raiders went to 132-pounder Simon Roth and 150-pounder Ethan Bomer. Warriors make it five in a row in dominating fashionATTICA — Five Mohawk grapplers won titles and four others finished second Saturday as the Warriors rolled to the Northern 10 Athletic Conference Championships crown.It was a sparsely-contested event; only five of the eight conference schools competed, and only three weight classes had five grapplers, leading to all weight classes using a round-robin format.Still, Mohawk captured its fifth title in a row and its seventh in the N10's nine-year history.The Warriors stormed past Seneca East 261 1/2-189 for the top team spot, followed by Bucyrus (183), Carey (143) and Upper Sandusky (74).Jace Margraf and Kael Margraf both turned in 4-0 marks en route to titles at 150 pounds and 165 pounds for Mohawk, while 144-pounder Evan England, 190-pounder Kyle Stillberger and 215-pounder Braylan Mullholand each went 3-0.The Margrafs each recorded three pins, with Jace Margraf adding a technical fall and Kael Margraf tallying a major decision.England, Stillberger and Mullholand each posted three pins.Runner-up finishes for the Warriors came from 126-pounder Liam Pursell (3-1), 132-pounder Brant Kirian (2-1), 157-pounder Anthony Studer (2-1) and 175-pounder Trevor Johnson (2-1).Thirds went to Mohawk 113-pounder Trevor Blankenship, 138-pounder Braxton Frisch and 285-pounder Jacob Myers.Seneca East picked up championships from 113-pounder Deacon Lacy (1-0), 120-pounder Nicholas Parks (2-0), 126-pounder Nathan Parks (4-0) and 285-pounder Dominic Hemmer (3-0).Lacy earned a decision in his lone match. Simms, Flores claim NBC titlesPEMBERVILLE — James Simms and Binicio Flores both captured crowns and three teammates also played Saturday to guide Fostoria to fifth at the Northern Buckeye Conference Championships.Genoa powered past Elmwood 211 1/2-118 for the top team spot, followed by Otsego (107), Woodmore (96 1/2), Fostoria (85), Lake (73), Rossford (59) and Eastwood (49).Simms pinned Otsego's Lee Borders (:42) for the 150-pound title, and Flores flattened Genoa's Kevin Ludwig (2:21) for the crown at 285 pounds.Jose Garcia added a runner-up finish for the Redmen at 190 pounds after getting pinned by Woodmore's Eli Wolph (2:35).Thirds for FHS came from 144-pounder Kaileb Schube pinning Otsego's Carter Hartman (1:33), and 215-pounder Trenton Kirby beating Rossford's Logan Bieganowski 4-1.
