Attica Woman's Literary Guild The Attica Woman's Literary Guild met March 14, 2023 at the Seneca East Public Library with 14 members present. We proceeded from the library to tour Bunchberries Primitives and Propers located at 37 E. Tiffin St. in Attica. Owner Shelly Daniel welcomed us by giving a brief history of the beautifully restored house in which she opened her business. It was built in the 1860's by John Silcox who owned and operated a dry goods store on the corner where Sutton Bank is now located. She described the layout and features of the home with its beautiful woodwork, original cabinets, summer kitchen including the outer buildings of a milkhouse and woodshed. An associate Literary Guild member and historian Virginia Roth was one of the original owners of this impressive home and its fascinating history. Shelly bought the house in 2017 and opened her shop in 2018. It features primitives, victorian, farmhouse, and antique decor along with a variety of candles, jewelry, handmade/custom signs, goat milk soaps, lotions, and so much more. We all enjoyed the variety and choices available and were very appreciative of Shelly's warmth and hospitality which made us feel so welcome. Upon our return to the library, we enjoyed lunch from Smittys Pizza Co. who provided great food and service. The meeting was called to order by President Linda Larimer and we all joined in reading the Collect. President Larimer read an "Irish Blessing" and a humorous story about "The Farmer and the Donkey". The minutes from the February meeting were read and the treasurer's report was presented. Both were approved as read. Pennies for the library were collected. Roll call was naming your favorite berry. The next meeting will be held on April 11, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Seneca East Public Library. Green Stem Gardeners Eight members and one guest attended our March meeting. Our horticulture report was on Plants that repel pests. We will meet on May 20 at Kathie Hudson's for our trip to Shiloh for plants for the Green Springs planters. On June 20 our day trip will be to Yoder's, Pine Tree Barn, Parsley Pot, Beyond Measure and Miller's Market. July will be sunflowers in Lindsey, Ohio and in August we are going to Burhams Orchards to pick peaches. Kelly is still working on our bus trip for October. Kiwanis Club of Seneca County The Kiwanis Club of Seneca County assembled and delivered backpacks for foster children in Seneca County. The Ohio District Governor and his wife have chosen this as their First Family Project for 2022-2023. The backpacks contained (along with other items ) basic personal hygiene products, a water bottle, note pad and pen and an inspirational message. Sew Sharp 4-H Club To start off today's meeting, Cora Sooy led The Pledge of Allegiance and Mollie Snyder led the 4-H pledge. The roll call today was "What is your favorite easter candy?", and the most popular response was chocolate. The secretary's minutes were read by one of our advisors, Casey Seimer, and the motion to approve the secretary's minutes was made by Mollie and seconded by Cora. Mollie gave a treasurer's report and Cora made a motion to accept the report and Anna Miller seconded it. Our advisor, Pat Overmyer gave a citizenship report on the Ohio state motto. Cora gave a safety report on the difference between tornado watches and warnings, and a health report on preventing sicknesses. Anna gave an energy report on how to keep your energy bill down. Old business was registration. New business is donating $20 for an award and green cards. Cora moved to give $20 to sponsor the award and Mollie seconded the motion. Mollie gave a demonstration on how to make friendship bracelets, and Andy Hickman gave a safety talk on electrical safety. Cora moved to adjourn the meeting and Mollie seconded the motion, meting adjourned. Our next meeting will be held at The Old Fort Church on April 16 at 6 p.m. Tiffin Rotary Tiffin Rotary Club was "on the road" Tuesday as they were being hosted by Ohio State Senator Bill Reineke at the Ohio Statehouse. Transportation was generously provided by SCAT and allowed members about 90 minutes for conversation and the opportunity to get to know each other better. After clearing security, the group of 25 was given a tour of the 1839 Greek Revival building. We were able to see the Governor's ceremonial office, the state's House of Representatives, the Senate, the Statehouse Museum and the Atrium. During lunch in the Republican Campaign Committee Room, Senator Reineke provided an update on a variety of subjects, including education, the power grid and the ramifications of electric vehicles, growth in Union County and the Ohio budget. Bill also introduced his staff and invited members to consider arranging tours for their families. After lunch, we joined Bill in the Senate chambers where he presided over a non-voting session and also presented Tiffin Mayor Dawn Iannantuono and Chamber Executive Director Bryce Riggs with a resolution acknowledging the Seneca Regional Chamber of Commerce as a 2023 Outstanding Chamber of the Year. After a visit to the Statehouse Gift Shop, the group traveled safely and pleasantly back to Tiffin concluding a very pleasant and informative day. Tiffin Rotary is very grateful to Senator Reineke for his service to our state and for arranging this memorable tour. American Legion Auxiliary Victory Unit 260, Attica American Legion Victory Unit 260 met on March 21, 2023 at 7 p.m. at the Legion hall. President Laurie Risner presided. New member, Penny Maxheimer, was welcomed. Junior Auxiliary update was given by K. Siesel and B. Kochel, reported that the gift baskets raffle at the SAL gun raffle was successful. Junior members will be sending Easter cards to veterans within the next few weeks. A discussion regarding committee reports took place. It was an opportunity to clarify questions. Reminder: All committee reports are due to Department by April 15. The poppies arrived. Volunteers will be needed to sell them in May. The pork chop dinner planned for April 15, has been postponed tentatively to Sept. 23, pending other activities on the community calendar Unit 260 will be responsible for decorating the Seneca East Public Library window for the month of May. Decorations will remain up from the first week of May until after June 14 (Flag Day). B. Gregor will chair this activity and she will be contacting members for help. Members are reminded of the cemetery cleanup. Wreaths (from Wreaths Across America) have been removed from the cemeteries. However, if anyone encounters wreaths, please pick them up and throw them away. Thank you to members who helped with the refreshment stand at the Sons of the American Legion Gun raffle. The Memorial Service for long-time member, Fannie Heimlich was March 25 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Thank you to B. Gregor, M. Hoepf, N. King, M. Lucius, L. Risner and B. Manning for attending. Next meeting: April 18, 2023 at 7 p.m. Bloomville Good Luck Sheep 4-H Club The fifth meeting of the Bloomville Good Luck Sheep club took place on Sunday March 12, 2023 at 5 p.m. at the Bloomville Community Center. Advisor Mary Showman called the meeting to order, Vice President Kurtis Riehm selected "your favorite song" for roll call. Roll Call was called and there were 31 members present and four advisors and numerous participants from other clubs. The Secretary's report was read and approved, and the treasurer's report was read and approved. Old Business: 4-h camp is June 12-15 and the Seneca County fair is July 24-30. New Business: Quality assurance was held with many guests. Refreshments: The club had a nacho bar, and ingredients were brought by Mandy-cheese & dessert, Ava-Dessert, Sherri-Lettuce, Megan-Drinks, Amy-plates/napkins, Bogners-sour cream, Brantley-cheese & salsa, and Victoria-shells & chips. Next meeting Refreshments will be provided by the Riehm's. The meeting was adjourned by Joey Tuck and seconded by John Curry. Seneca Toastmasters #1845 Seneca Toastmasters #1845 met on March 28 in the Jr. Home Room of the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library with five members present. President Tom Burwell called the meeting to order and introduced John Curtin as Toastmaster for the evening. Curtin continued with the opening and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. He then introduced Humorist Laurel Lilly who gave a humorous update on a new prescription medication. Topicmaster Burwell presented the word "Callous" meaning emotionally hardened, layers of dead skin. He called upon the following: Suzanne Black – With Spring lawn care/gardening season upon us, how do you plan on keeping your hands callous-free? Curtin -- What is the best treatment to ease the pain of a callous? Jim Black – Have you ever met a callous person? How did you interact with them? Lilly – Do sports players who "warm the bench" really get callouses on their backsides? Toastmaster Curtin introduced General Evaluator Suzanne Black who commented on the meeting and introduced Grammarian Curtin and Timer Jim Black for their reports. President Burwell conducted a short business meeting. V-P Education Lilly announced the District 28 Spring Conference to be held via zoom on April 22. She will provide a link to those who are interested. Burwell volunteered to be a mentor for Nakhi Taylor. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 11 at 7 p.m. in the Jr. Home Room. Guests are always welcome to visit and learn about Toastmasters. New Riegel American Legion Commander, Ken Boes opened the recent meeting of the New Riegel American Legion meeting at 7:30 p.m. Chuck Shellhammer was sent a "get well" card. Member Greg Koeper passed away. Darl Theis with his wife, Kathy, Ron Clouse and Mike Nye attended the 5th District Conference in Elyria. A donation was given to All Saints Church for an ad in their bulletin. A donation was given to the Gifts for Yanks program (which is for hospitalized veterans). Jim Kelbley thanked members who helped at the gun show. On April 1 first the Moose and Legion will host a gun raffle. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the raffle is at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10. Kiwanis Club of Tiffin (March 30) Nate Mullins from Heart of Ohio Sports was the featured speaker at the March 30 meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Tiffin with 20 in attendance at Kiwanis Manor and two members joining via Zoom. Heart of Ohio Sports is a media broadcasting company based in Tiffin. It is owned under the umbrella of Mullins Entertainment Products, Inc. The company is named for the sports side of the business but also does live event streaming, graphic editing, business logo enhancement and more. Nate also does podcasts, live shows and commercial production. He said that video commercials are very popular today. His company has the potential to promote many local businesses. Nate's studio and video production company are located in the heart of downtown Tiffin. By tuning into Heart of Ohio Sports on Monday evenings you can listen to "The Pulse Podcast," where Nate, Greg Kinn and Tommy Hall, the "founding fathers" of the channel, discuss a wide range of sports topics, but also dive into other general areas of interest outside of sports. Wednesday nights feature the "Over Under Podcast," a show hosted by Joey Krajewski and Aaron Steyer, which is dedicated to sports books. Thursday night on Heart of Ohio Sports features "Mullin It Over," an interview-based program in which Nate talks to various guests on a wide range of topics. Heart of Ohio Sports covers local high school football, basketball and baseball as well as some collegiate football. Club president Tom Schweitzer opened the meeting by leading the club in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Kiwanis Mission Statement. Eric Willman provided the prayer. Andrew Trusty was the guest of Pam Greene; Rich Overholt the guest of Lewis Miller; and Ryan Herr, Aktion Club member, the guest of Marta Mohr. Easter candy fundraiser candy was available for pickup. Those that ordered candy but didn't make the meeting should contact Kayleigh Feasel to get their candy. Ryan Herr informed members of upcoming Aktion Club events including the Easter Egg Hunt, Palm Sunday Drive-Thru Dinner, and Celebrity Basketball Game. Pam Greene reminded members that they could still order coffee or tea to benefit Boy Scouts of America until Thursday, April 6. Eric Willman spoke about the upcoming Ohio State football season ticket fundraiser. The Kiwanis Day of Giving takes place April 3 – 7. Club members will be receiving a letter concerning attendance and obtaining new members. The annual meeting and election of officers take place at the May 4 meeting. The club is in need of a vice president and two new board members. Anyone interested should contact Eric Willman or Bernie Steinmetz. Tom Schweitzer won the 50/50. The speaker for the next meeting on April 6 will be Angie Cole from Camp Quality Ohio.
