Yoga in the Grove FREMONT – Relax, breathe and stretch with Yoga in the Grove offered at sunset and in mornings on various dates throughout the summer at Spiegel Grove. The Yoga Haven studio in Fremont will offer these yoga classes in the rose garden of the property, which is an arboretum and the estate of President Rutherford and First Lady Lucy Hayes. Yoga in the Grove classes are designed for all levels, and teachers will modify it to students' needs. The class includes basic yoga poses, breathing practices and deep relaxation. Cost is $12 for adults and $7 for students ages 17 and younger. Tickets are available at theyogahavenfremont.com. Explore Spiegel Grove FREMONT – See the many trees of Spiegel Grove and learn about their types and history during a variety of tree tours offered throughout the year. Tours last about an hour and cover different trees and topics ranging from giant trees to trees that President Rutherford B. Hayes and his descendants named in honor of people they admired. These tours enhance the experience of walking at Spiegel Grove, an official arboretum and estate of the president and his wife, First Lady Lucy Hayes. They also will be sold at the museum front desk the days of the events, pending availability. The 2023 schedule of tours: - Friday, April 28 – Arbor Day Sunrise Tree Tour. Departs at 7:30 a.m. from the Hayes Home verandah. - Saturday, June 10 – Tree Tour. Departs the museum at 10 a.m. - Wednesday, June 14 – Trees Named in Honor. Departs the museum at 5:30 p.m. Learn the stories of the people who visited Spiegel Grove who had trees named in their honor. Also learn about the trees themselves. Tickets for non-members are $10 for adults, $7 for ages 6-18, free for ages 5 and younger. Hayes Presidential members can enjoy this tour for free. Departs the museum at 12:30 p.m. Spiegel Grove is a 25-acre arboretum that has more than 90 species of trees, some of which date back to President Rutherford B. Hayes' time on the estate and even earlier. Varieties include chestnut, oak, holly, gingko, various pines and more. A seedling of the Oklahoma City bombing Survivor Tree also has been planted and is thriving on the property. The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and The Morton Arboretum named Spiegel Grove a level 1 arboretum for achieving particular standards of professional practices deemed important for arboreta and botanic gardens. Free STEM program FREMONT- Kids can build boats, learn creative construction and make their own roller coaster this summer with Frohman Summer Series: Hands-on History take-home kits from the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums. This three-part series, which promotes learning about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through local history, is through take-home kits only this year. There will be 20 kits available for each of the three subjects offered throughout the summer. Registration is required to obtain a take-home kit. This program is geared toward kids ages 6 - 11. The subjects and weeks the kits will be available are: - Cedar Point Roller Coasters – Week of June 12: Students can learn about speed, strength, gravity and other principles of physics and engineering by building a roller coaster using a variety of materials. - All Hands on Deck! Ships and Boats of the Great Lakes – Week of July 10: Students will learn about buoyancy, flotation displacement and other principles of physics and engineering by building different types of boats with a variety of materials. - Thinking Outside the Box: Engineering and Creative Construction – Week of Aug. 14: Using the Frohman historic photographs and documents, students will learn about the innovative cardboard box manufacturer, Hinde & Dauch Paper Company.
