Time for summer camp signup

The start of warm weather brings thoughts of summer activities to parents and youths, and Seneca County has a variety of summer camps available for all ages. Day camps and weeklong camps offer youth fun, educational programs based on their interests – whether they be nature and wildlife, horses, sports or a little bit of everything. Many Tiffin Parks and Recreation summer camps have filled in the first two weeks of registration, but those remaining as of Tuesday afternoon include: • Tennis camps, ages 5-10, 11-14 and 15-18, June 5-8, times vary by age, $40. • Equestrian Camp: Welsh Ponies, ages 5-7, June 12-13, 9 a.m.-noon, $75. • Equestrian Camp: Paint Horses, ages 8-11, June 14-15, 9 a.m.-noon, $75. • Equestrian Camp: Clydesdales, ages 12-18, June 16, 12:30-4 p.m., $75. • Mohawk Summer Golf Academy for ages 8-14, June 26-29, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., $200. • Tiffin Youth Fire Academy, ages 11-15, July 10-13, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., $40. Seneca Parks Seneca Parks has day camps available for preschoolers through adults. They are: • Working for Wildlife, 9 a.m.-noon June 12-16, ages 12-17. Each day, teens will be working on wildlife projects in a different nature preserve, $50. • Adventure's Eve Camp, 6-9 p.m. June 26-30, ages 6-12. Each evening is spent on a different night-time topic, Fruth Wetland Nature Preserve, 10130 W. SR 18, Fostoria, $50. • Nature Camp, 9 a.m.-noon July 10-14, ages 6-12. Each day, a different habitat is explored – grasslands, woods, wetlands and ponds, Garlo Heritage Nature Preserve, 6777 S. SR 19, Bloomville, $50. • Little One's Nature Days, 9 a.m.-noon July 18-20, ages 3-5. Each day, a new topic is explored – birds, fish, mammals, Garlo Heritage Nature Preserve, $30. • Adult Nature Camp. 9 a.m.-noon July 31-Aug. 4, for adults only who "just wanna have fun." The week includes several topics at various county parks, $50. Registration must be received 10 days before the beginning of each camp. TR 131, McCutchenville, is offering weeklong overnight camps for youths ages 7-20. Cost is $200 per week, which includes housing, meals and activities. The NWOCYC property has 14 sleeping cabins, a chapel, an amphitheater, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, basketball courts, a fire circle, a recreation field, the Sandusky River, a dining hall, a recreation room, a nurses station, a canteen and an arts and crafts building. This summer's schedule includes: • June 11-17, ages 7-20, Director Nick Strawser. • June 18-24, ages 7-20, Director Matt Dahm. • June 25-July 1, Teen Week, ages 13-20, Director Chris Cannon. • July 2-8, ages 7-20, Director Josh Derr. • July 9-15, ages 7-20, Director Tim Nowlin Week. • July 19-24, Wellness Week, Director Dee Knapp. Matt Neely, secretary of the organization's board of directors, said the faith-based camps offer sports, arts and crafts and "a lot of the traditional summer camp experiences." "We have one of the last outdoor Olympic-sized swimming pools in Ohio," he said. The format for each week is similar, except for Teen Week and Wellness Week. "We get people from all over Ohio and from different parts of the country that come back year after year," he said. "We pride ourselves on that classic summer camp experience." Other camps There are no summer day camps this year at the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center, and no information was available for summer programs at Camp Glen, hosted by Camp Fire Northwest Ohio, Findlay, or YMCA of Bucyrus-Tiffin.
