Extra scorers help H-L nip Gibsonburg for second

BASCOM — Every now and then, there's a track meet set up a little different than the traditional model.Some are all relay events, where along with the regular running relays you have field event personnel competing in threesomes for the best cumulative total.Some add events, like the triple jump, shuttle hurdles, sprint medley, distance medley and 4x1,600.Along with adding the 4x1,600 and triple jump, Hopewell-Loudon's Dick Schultz Invitational goes one better, allowing teams to have three scorers, as opposed to the regular two, in each individual event.That little chance of extra help helped out the host girls Saturday.The Chieftains won the 4x1,600 and used the boost provided by having three scorers in the 1,600, 800, 3,200 and triple jump to slip past Gibsonburg 144-142 1/2 for the runner-up spot at their own meet.Delta cruised to the championship with 167 1/2 points. Calvert came in fourth (93), followed by Buckeye Central (73), New Riegel (37) and Bucyrus (24).Emma Hintze, Alanee Huber, Emily Arbogast and Emily Foster claimed the 4x1,600 (26:31.56), one of four victories by H-L.Anna Daniel added another by winning the discus (104-7)Alivia Roerdink had the other two, taking the 400 (1:02.6) and 800 (2:37.26).Hannah Schreiner added a third in the 800 (2:43.02) and Huber ran sixth (3:00.44) to complete the H-L triple threat in that race.The three scores in the 1,600 came from Schreiner's third (5:59.32), Hanna Wyman's sixth (6:21.74) and Abby Oswalt's eighth (6:33.28).Hintze (13:37.44), Kara Wyman (13:52.53) and Arbogast (14:16.47) ran third, fifth and sixth in the 3,200.Delana Wright led the trio of H-L scorers in the triple jump by capturing second (30-2). Maddie Jordan took fourth (26-3 1/4) and Foster ended eighth (23-4 1/2).Points came from plenty of other events.Runner-up finishes went to pole vaulter Kara Wyman (7-6), Daniel in the shot (31-3), and the 4x800 team of Schreiner, Hintze, Abby Oswalt and Hanna Wyman (11:16.58).Ava Kirian chipped in a third in the discus (92-3).Izabella Frankart, Schreiner, Hanna Wyman and Roerdink ran fourth in the 4x400 (4:55.05).Maddy Colatruglio took fifth in the 100 hurdles (19.86), and anchored both the 4x200 (2:07.14) and 4x100 (57.49) to fifth.Jordan, Alayna Jones and Alexandrea Jackson rounded out both the 4x200 and 4x100 teams.Jackson also took fifth in the high jump (4-4), and Kendall Eilrich ended sixth (4-2) in the same event.Wright finished seventh in the long jump (13-8 1/2) and eighth in the 100 hurdles (20.89), and Laura Cook came in seventh in the shot (25-7 1/2).Calvert also claimed four victories, led by Leah Smith taking the 100 (12.91) and anchoring the 4x200 team to victory (1:50.72).Morgan Elchert, Camryn Shook and Brooklyn Brown joined her on the 4x200.The Senecas also got wins from high jumper Carleigh Meier (4-9) and triple jumper Shelby Michaels (30-5 1/2).Shook ran second in the 100 (13.85) and Brown did the same in the 400 (1:06.01).Brown added a third in the 200 (29.22), as did Meier in the triple jump (27-5 3/4).Allison Ott tallied fourths in the shot (28-4 1/2) and discus (88-1).Michaels ended fourth in the high jump (4-4) and sixth in the 300 hurdles (1:01.18).Elchert finished fifth in the 100 (14.35) and seventh in the 200 (31.53).Meier took eighth in the long jump (13-7).Nevaeh Metzger paced Buckeye Central by figuring in two wins and two seconds.She claimed the long jump (14-11 3/4), anchored the winning 4x400 team (4:35.2), ran second in the 800 (2:39.41) and ran a leg on the runner-up 4x200 team (1:57.93).Sophia Martin, Ella Collene and Sarah Martin joined her on both relays.Allison Wright added a second in the discus (99-3).Collene came in third in the long jump (14-4 1/4), and ran with Sophia Martin, Paityn Hafner and Sarah Martin to take third in the 4x100 (56.27).Hafner added a fourth in the 300 hurdles (56.65) and a seventh in the 100 hurdles (20.03).Sarah Martin ended fifth in the long jump (14-2).Angela Figueroa ran seventh in both the 1,600 (6:32.19) and 3,200 (14:31.89).Eighths went to discus thrower Liz Krebs (68-9) and Wright in the shot (25-5 1/2).New Riegel did not claim a victory, but Katelyn Arbogast did figure in four places.She ran second in the 300 hurdles (52.41) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (19.53), finished fifth in the triple jump (25-10 1/2) and anchored the Blue Jackets to sixth in the 4x100 (1:00.34).Addison Theis, Lindsey Nye and Ava Goshe rounded out the 4x100.Thirds went to Nye in the 100 hurdles (19.22) and Theis in the 300 hurdles (55.19).Theis, Goshe, Cate Reinhart and Nye crossed the line sixth in the 4x200 (2:18.51).Nye also ended eighth in the 800 (3:00.92). Kreais, Rombach shine at Dick ShuBASCOM — Hopewell-Loudon's Evan Kreais and Calvert's Jacob Rombach each won two individual events and took second in another Saturday to highlight area boys efforts at the Hopewell-Loudon Dick Schultz Invitational.Kreais claimed the high jump (6-2) and triple jump (39-8 1/2) and ran second in the 110 hurdles (16.43) to help the host Chieftains finish third in the team standings with 132 points. He also took third in the long jump (18-9 3/4).Meanwhile, Rombach captured the 400 (52.38) and long jump (20-8 1/4) and wound up second in the triple jump (39-4 1/4) for the Senecas, who finished fifth with 87 1/2 points.Delta turned back Bucyrus 160-151 for the team crown. Gibsonburg scored 95 1/2 points for fourth, Buckeye Central came in sixth (72) and New Riegel ended seventh (24).Other seconds for H-L came from shot putter Will Nutter (40-5), discus thrower Erik Hossler (120-7) and the 4x1,600 team of Logan Lust, Vince Fruth, Alex Fitzpatrick and Chas Huber (22:26.56).George Beucler ran third in the 100 (11.96) and anchored H-L to third in the 4x100 (46.39). Martin and Alec Phillips rounded out the 4x200. Braden Siefert, Drew Rose and Isaac Parsons filled out the 4x400.Dom Dean ended third in both the shot (39-8) and discus (114-0).Martin ran third in the 300 hurdles (45.61) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.65).Daniel, Alec Phillips, Jack Phillips and Dean added a fourth in the 4x100 (48.75).James Forman finished fifth in the 110 hurdles (19.37) and 300 hurdles (48.41), and Max Aichholz did the same in the discus (109-0).Noah Wilson, Siefert, Elijah Lenhart and Dominic Allgyre crossed the line seventh in the 4x800 (9:39.86).Eighths went to Parsons in the 300 hurdles (48.97) and Noah Wilson in the 3,200 (12:01.58).New Riegel's Aaron Hohman took third in the 3,200 (11:02.39) and fifth in the 1,600 (5:00.13), and ran with Cameron Hohman, Jayden Nye and Zachary Zoeller to end fourth in the 4x800 (9:16.1).Nye added a fifth in the long jump (18-9), and ran with Zoeller, Jory Hanna and Collin Goshe to finish sixth in the 4x200 (1:45.82).Eighths went to Goshe in the 110 hurdles (21.23) and Hanna in the triple jump (30-6).
