Calvert girls claim their first SBC track crown

MILAN — Calvert and Leah Smith roared into Day 2 of the River Division portion of the Sandusky Bay Conference Championships, all the way to their first SBC girls track title.Smith sprinted her way to three individual titles and anchored a winning relay, and the Senecas picked up three other victories Friday to pull away from Gibsonburg for a 131-114 championship.Danbury turned away Hopewell-Loudon 94-88 for third, followed by Lakota (81), Old Fort (53), Fremont St. Joe (45 1/2), Sandusky St. Mary (32) and New Riegel (16 1/2).The meet began Tuesday with finals in three field events, the 4x800 and 3,200, along with preliminary races.Calvert ended the first day in third place overall with 26 points, with Gibsonburg holding a 34-30 edge over Danbury for the top spot. That all changed Friday.Smith breezed to wins in the 100 (12.31), 400 (58.43) and 200 (25.13), and ran with Emily Miller, Camryn Shook and Brooklyn Brown to take the 4x200 (1:45.37).Olivia Miller added a win in the long jump (14-10 1/4) and ran legs on the winning 4x100 (53.16) and 4x400 (4:12.0) teams.Morgan Elchert, Emily Miller and Kara Somodi rounded out the 4x100. Beamer notches 4 wins, SE holds off Eagles for 3rd-straight N10 titleNEW WASHINGTON — It's been a battle almost every year between Seneca East and Colonel Crawford on the track and this year was no different at Buckeye Central. It was the same result as the Tigers claimed their third-straight Northern 10 Athletic Conference title. SE topped CC 137-135, while Carey was fourth (79), Upper Sandusky was fifth (67 ½), Buckeye Central came in sixth (42) and Mohawk finished eighth (32).A big reason for SE's winning streak continuing was the speedy performance from Korbin Beamer. The senior was a part of four winning events as he claimed the 100 (11.43), the 200 (23.15) and was on two winning relays — the 4x1 (44.51) squad of Austin Perry, Lucas Bordner and Taylor Young and the 4x2 (1:33.28) team of Young, Perry and Bordner.Those were the four wins for SE, but it did have two runner-up finishes as Keeno Ruffing placed second in the discus (137-8) and Luke Hicks was runner-up in the 110 hurdles (16.59). Thirds went to Bradley Smith in the 800 (2:07.18), Ruffing in the shot put (43-5 ¾), Hicks in the discus (132-5) and the 4x8 (8:44.86) relay squad of Smith, Brycen Lantz, Evan Schieffer and Leo Schreiner. Border was fourth in the high jump (5-10) and Isaac Mason came in fourth in the pole vault (11-0).Carey's Brock Bushong swept the throwing events with a win in the shot put (44-10) and in the discus (144-3), while Brody Baker took second in the 300 hurdles (43.37) and the 4x4 (3:36.66) relay team of Brayden Young, Bryce Young, Austin Niederkohr and Baker took second. Baker also added a third in the 110 hurdles (16.63) and a fourth place finish in the 4x2 (1:35.98) relay event, along with teammates Brayden Young, Niederkohr and Eli Steen. Upper Sandusky's relays had success Friday night as the 4x4 (3:34.88) team of Jason Barr, Max Martinez, Evan Hill and Levi Lamb won, the 4x2 (1:33.52) team of Levi Allen, Martinez, Hill and Lamb took second and the 4x1 (45.80) squad of Hill, Martinez, Fernando Navichoque and Allen placed third. Ashton Vent added a third in the 3,200 (10:18.62) and a fourth in th3 1,600 (4:44.74), while Collin Bils finished fourth in the discus (123-1).Bc's Corbin Bloomfield was second in the 400 (52.43), third in the long jump (19-0 ¼) and fourth in the 200 (23.79) to lead the Bucks' efforts. J.R. Martin added a third place in the 300 hurdles (43.46) and a fourth place in the 110 hurdles (16.68).The highlight for Mohawk, was once again from the two-time state champion pole vaulter Zaiden Fry. He topped his meet record height from last year (14-9), clearing 15-0 this season to win another N10 title. Elsewhere for the Warriors, Boomer Cleveland, Hayden Parker, AJ Hess and Kael Margraf ran fourth in the 4x8 (8:52.03) relay, while the 4x1 (46.57) placed fifth. That team consisted of Ethan Gatchell, Owen Chevalier, Kahne Hayman and Gavin Barth. Carey 2nd, US 3rd at N10 meetNEW WASHINGTON — Nobody was catching Colonel Crawford Friday night in the Northern 10 Athletic Conference meet at Buckeye Central, but there were some good showings locally. The Eagles tallied 186 points, while Carey was runner-up with 118, Upper Sandusky came in third with 93, Seneca East was fourth with 80, Mohawk fifth with 55 and Buckeye Central rounded out the field with 37. Carey took home three wins Friday night as Abbie Bushong won the discus with a toss of 117-2, Lexi Plott claimed the 100 hurdles in a time of 16.01 seconds and the 4x2 relay team of Macy Wentling, Kelsey Bursby, Eliza Weinandy and Plott won in 1:47.93, which was a meet record. Chloe Etzinger added a runner-up spot in the 3,200 (12:58.84), while Plott was second in the high jump (5-2), Macy Hoepf was second in the long jump (15-11) and Tristen Courtad was second in the 100 hurdles (17.46). Thirds went to Etzinger in the 1,600 (5:37.97) and the 4x1 relay (52.69) squad of Courtad, Hoepf, Riley Yost and Weinandy was also third. Courtad in the pole vault (8-6), Hoepf in the 300 hurdles (53.46), Etzinger in the 800 (2:37.18) and Wentling in the 100 (13.59) all took fourth.The Rams didn't take home any wins Friday, but Dani Brodbeck and Madi Ratliff were both a part of three top four finishes. Brodbeck was second in the 100 (13.50), took second in the 4x1 relay (52.05) along with Ratliff, Brooke Finscally and Kyla Conley and she claimed fourth in the 200 (27.69). Ratliff added thirds in the 100 hurdles (17.51) and in the 4x4 relay (4:21.71), along with Macy Mewhorter, Jenna Wenger and Arielle O'Flaherty. Aeris Caudill placed second in the 300 hurdles (51.17), while taking fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.84), Brynlee Cundiff was third in the 3,200 (12:58.84) and Elexys Miller placed third in the high jump (4-10).Seneca East's Lilly Schiefer had a big night for the Tigers, winning the 1,600 (5:19.26, meet record) and the 3,200 (11:53.74), as well as placing second on the 4x8 (10:00.76, meet record) relay team of Camryn Lantz, Jaidyn Kagy-Alexander and Valerie Bordner and she was fourth with the 4x4 (4:22.71) team of Lantz, Kagy-Alexander and Bordner.Haylee Steinmetz added a runner-up finish in the pole vault, clearing 9-0, while Izzy Stockmaster was third in the 300 hurdles (53.22), Caroline Kagy took fourth in the shot put (32-8), Lantz was fourth in th3 400 (1:02.83) and the 4x1 (54.54) squad of Olivia Stockmaster, Sayge Miller, Quinlan Burroughs and Izzy Stockmaster also took fourth.Mohawk senior Emily Klopp claimed the shot put with a toss of 34-10 ¼. She also was third in the discus (107-4). Brooklen Helton was runner-up in the 400 (1:01.43), while she was also second on the 4x4 (4:19.86) relay team of Emerson Gurney, Izzy Meyer and Elizabeth Klopp. Helton was also a part of the third-place 4x8 (10:28.88) team of Meyer, Gurney and Addison Horner. Horner added a fourth in the 3,200 (13:14.38) for the Warriors. Bc's Nevaeh Metzger posted seconds in the 800 (2:33.15) and in the long jump (15-1 ¾), while Paityn Hafner took fifth in the 300 hurdles (53.94) and the 4x1 relay (54.89) team of Sophia Martin, Ella Collene, Hafner and Sarah Martin also finished fifth.
