Detective Misty Wheeler

National Police Week takes place the week of May 15 every year. This year National Police Week is May 14 – May 20. According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, in 1962, President John Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. In honor of National Police Week, the A-T interviewed local law enforcement to shine a light on the men and women of the Tiffin Police Department and the Seneca County Sheriff's Office. The A-T spoke with Seneca County Sheriff Detective Misty Wheeler. Wheeler is from Port Clinton and a graduate of Port Clinton High School. She then attended Tiffin University where she received a bachelor's degree in law enforcement and forensic science. She also completed the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy at Terra State Community College. She explained that like most officers, she chose her career in law enforcement to help others. While in college, Wheeler interned with the Seneca County Drug Task Force. She said the task force opened her eyes to the positive impact law enforcement has on the community. "I enjoy the positive public relations that my job allows me to have," Wheeler said. "I recently took charge of the Project Lifesaver Program through the Seneca County Sheriff's Office. This program has allowed me to work with other members of the community that work hard to make a difference in Seneca County." "It has also given me the opportunity to work with the families in need of the help that this program offers. I also find passion in helping to seek justice for victims or survivors of crime in our community. The camaraderie that I have gained with my fellow co-workers while working towards the same goal, has always been one of my favorite parts about my job." Wheeler spends time with family and friends and her dog, Arlo, during her free time.
