Deputy Joseph Heabler

National Police Week takes place the week of May 15 every year. This year National Police Week is May 14 – May 20. According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, in 1962, President John Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. In honor of National Police Week, the A-T interviewed local law enforcement to shine a light on the men and women of Tiffin Police Department and Seneca County Sheriff's Office. The A-T spoke to Seneca County Sheriff's Department Deputy Joseph Heabler. Heabler is originally from Clyde where he received a high school diploma. He also has a certification from the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy. "I joined the force because I wished I had 'a me' growing up, someone who could understand people and know that not everyone comes from the same background," he told the A-T. Heabler explained that his favorite part of the job is the people he works with and the community he serves. He further said he loves the job because it is always different. "One minute you could be writing a traffic citation," Heabler said. "Next, you could be responding to a call with lights and sirens." He enjoys spending time at the gym, fishing, or hanging out with his friends and family during his free time.
