Clerk of Courts selected

Stephanie Hicks has been selected as the Seneca County Clerk of Courts. The Seneca County Republican Central Committee voted Wednesday evening. The vote comes after Jean Eckelberry announced her retirement after serving as Clerk of Courts for 9 years. Hicks was unanimously appointed with 29 votes, according to David Koehl of the Seneca County Republican Central Committee. In May, the Seneca County Commissioners approved Eckelberry's choice of Hicks as the interim clerk of courts. Eckelberry said she was one of the first people she hired and she has 8 1/2 years of experience in the court and title offices. "She has a working knowledge of both offices," she said in May. "I know she has the knowledge, the professionalism and ability." Hicks will serve until Jan. 5, 2025. She is a 2010 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and also received a certificate of completion from Vanguard Tech Center. In 2013, Hicks was an intern at Seneca County Drug Task Force and received an associate degree in criminal justice from Terra State Community College the same year. Hicks began her career with the Clerks of Courts title office in 2014 where she served as the deputy clerk until January 2019. She then moved over to the legal department where she was the deputy clerk.
