New Riegel names new middle,high school principal

NEW RIEGEL --- This week, New Riegel Local School District announced they have selected a new Middle and High School principal. During the Monday evening meeting, the district named Valerie Zeno to the position. A contract was approved with Zeno to serve effective July 17, 2023. In this role, Zeno will oversee the academic operations of the Middle School and High School which includes many responsibilities including school improvement, curriculum, instruction and assessments, and meaningful engagement of staff and students, according to the district. Zeno currently serves as the assistant director at Vanguard-Sentinel Career and Technology Center. She has a bachelor of arts degree from Ashland University and master's of education from Bowling Green State University. The principal search committee screened and vetted the credentials of 14 potential candidates, according to the district. One board member, the superintendent, elementary principal, counselor, office manager and two middle school/high school teachers conducted first-round interviews in early May and in mid-May, two finalists were brought in for final-round interviews. At the end of the process, Zeno was selected as the best candidate to provide the district academic leadership for the future. New Riegel Superintendent David Rombach said in a release, "We are excited to have Zeno selected as our next Principal to lead our staff and students. Ms. Zeno brings building leadership experiences from the well-respected Vanguard-Sentinel and we feel very fortunate at New Riegel Local Schools to have her part of the Blue Jacket team. "Ms. Zeno has the work ethic and character of a New Riegel Blue Jacket and has leadership experiences that will serve her well taking over for our former principal Justin Johnson, who will be going to Gibsonburg to serve as their high school principal." "Leading a team to achieve building and district goals through exceptional communication both in my school building and within our community is something I have truly enjoyed," Zeno said in her application. "I plan to bring these experiences to further the goals of the New Riegel Local Schools and continue enriching the educational experience of students." "Throughout my career, I have been recognized for my positive attitude, follow-through and my ability to connect with all students while fostering a positive climate and culture," she continued. "I look forward to serving the New Riegel Local District."
