Illegal fireworks found at Tiffin Smoke Shop

A large number of fireworks were found at Tiffin Smoke Shop, 440 W. Market St., on Monday. According to Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly, the Tiffin Fire/Rescue Department contacted them to assist at the shop. Tiffin Firefighters were at the location carrying out a routine fire safety inspection. During the inspection, they observed numerous Class C fireworks on the floor for sale. Tiffin Fire/Rescue Division Chief Deputy Mike Homan also contacted the State Fire Marshall's office. According to the Ohio Department of Commerce, Class C fireworks, commonly known as consumer fireworks, can only be sold by licensed retailers, manufacturers or wholesalers. Pauly said the fireworks were seized as evidence. The retail value of the fireworks was about $3,100. The Seneca County Prosecutor's Office is currently reviewing the case for a violation of Ohio Revised Code 3743.65(A), which says no person in Ohio can possess for sale or sell Class C fireworks unless they are licensed. The owner of the shop, Abdallah M. Aldaman, could face a misdemeanor of the first degree. According to Pauly, that charge carries a maximum sentence of 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
