Second women's recovery house opens

The Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of Seneca, Ottawa, Sandusky and Wyandot Counties hosted an open house for its newest women's recovery home Thursday (June 22) evening. According to information provided by the board, recovery housing is defined by ORC as housing for individuals recovering from drug addiction. It provides an alcohol and drug-free environment, peer support, assistance with obtaining drug addiction services and other drug addiction recovery assistance. Research shows that residents of recovery housing have an overall improved quality of life, including decreased substance use, decreased incarceration rates, increased income, increased family and social relationships and improved psychological and emotional well-being. The house, dubbed Lotus 2, is operated by HOPE in Fostoria and is owned by the board. The house was funded with zero local dollars and was purchased with an Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services grant. Renovations were funded through the Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services Support Act. The home was furnished through Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services SOR and SOS 3.0 grants. Lotus 2 can house up to seven women and features a large, completely finished attic for group activities. It has two fully remodeled bathrooms, new paint and flooring and off-street parking.
