Man in abduction charged with murder

The suspect in an alleged abduction and car crash was charged with aggravated murder Tuesday in Tiffin-Fostoria Municipal Court. Jonathan J. Baker, 23, of North Baltimore was charged with aggravated murder via a warrant. The charge is a violation of Ohio Revised Code 2903.01CG. According to this section, "No person shall purposely cause the death of another who is under thirteen years of age at the time of the commission of the offense." The G portion of the section states: "Whoever violates this section is guilty of aggravated murder and shall be punished as provided in section 2929.02 of the ORC. According to section 2929.02, if convicted, Baker could "...suffer death or be imprisoned for life as determined pursuant to sections 2929.022, 2929.03, and 2929.04 of the Revised Code." Baker is suspected of kidnapping a baby from North Baltimore in late June following a domestic disturbance with his girlfriend. He then traveled to Seneca County where he crashed into a home on S. Sandusky Street upon realizing he was being followed by law enforcement. The 7-month-old baby Baker is suspected of kidnapping was in the back seat at the time of the crash. First responders performed life-saving measures on the infant, however, she later succumbed to her injuries at Mercy Health - Tiffin Hospital. It is yet to be determined if the baby was injured by the suspect prior to the crash. Baker remains at St. Vincent's Hospital in Toledo. Tiffin Police Department, North Baltimore Police, Seneca and Wood County Prosecutors are in collaboration on the case.
