TCS new tennis courts to be unveiled

Tiffin City Schools' new tennis courts will be unveiled next Monday. A ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Seneca County Regional Chamber is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, August 7 at the new tennis courts at Tiffin Columbian High School. The high school is located at 300 S. Monroe St., and the tennis courts are located down the hill from the high school, near Charlotte St. "Tiffin City Schools is proud to unveil five new tennis courts replacing the five that were in serious disrepair," the event description reads. "The last full renovation took place in 1987. The courts, new from the ground up, also have an upgraded viewing area with an improved concrete surface. The first match will be played on the courts on August 7, the day of the ribbon cutting." Back in March, the A-T reported the Tiffin City School board had awarded the contract for the new tennis courts to D2 Excavating in Vickery for $369,800. The unveiling of the new track is ahead of schedule as the A-T had also reported in March that the courts were expected to be completed by Aug. 15 of this year. Prior to the new courts being ready for play, Tiffin University had allowed TCS students to practice on its courts. "Heidelberg also allowed us to use their courts (we will be there all week)," said Columbian Tennis Coach Chip Weingart. "Both Tiffin University and Heidelberg University were great to work with this summer and we appreciate their help."
