Green Springs celebrates 150 years

GREEN SPRINGS — Frankie's Bar & Grill, 201 S. Broadway St., will celebrate the 150th birthday of the village of Green Springs. Frankie Martinez, owner of Frankie's Bar and Grill, said, "There's a lot of people that were upset because Green Springs wasn't doing anything for their 150th birthday," so Martinez took measures into his own hands and decided to host a celebration that individuals of all ages throughout the community are invited to attend. Green Springs turned 150 last year, and Stemtown Historical Society planned to host a celebration, however, with it recently moving buildings it was unable to host the event. Beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, the celebration will consist of various activities such as corn hole, limbo and hula hoops. There will also be live music from 3-5 p.m. by country singer Tony Robles and music by Reckless Operation from 7-11 p.m. Additionally, Martinez made T-shirts and koozies in honor of the event. Martinez, a Tiffin resident, said he grew up in Green Springs and wants to honor the village during this special time. "There's a lot of people that are excited that I'm doing this," he said. Money raised during the event will benefit Green Springs Stemtown Historical Society Museum's new building which is in the process of getting renovated. "Come join and celebrate Green Springs' 150th birthday!" Martinez said.
